My cousing and I are having a dilema.

Her 3 year old was taking a bubble bath. When she went in to check on the baby, she was complaining about a pain around her booty area. We asked some questions and, as it turns out, the baby put a JawBreaker into her Booty... yes!! A jawbreaker!! In her booty!!

We're worried and thinking about taking the baby to the emergency room. Either that or run off to the store to buy a laxative... but which one???

We're freaked out. I know this doesn't happen often but, if anybody can give us ANY advice, we'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

P.S.: We're not weird or sick... just 2 people trying to deal w/ a toddler issue. Thnx so much.

Try prune juice or apple juice, fiberous foods such as mini wheat thins, it will come out on its own, use vaseline around the anal opening if possible so that it will pass easier although it probably will decompose some. Be aware depending on the size of the jawbreaker there is a small risk of an internal tear and the child may need a liquid diet until it heals. Some risk of infection as well if it turns out to be something other than a jawbreaker. Talk to the child of course so that does not happen again. If in pain, go to ER or schedule a doctors visit sick appt. If the child sits on the toilet long enough gravity will help pull it out. Even a warm bath if Mom does not have the nerve to reach up and try to grab it which is what the nurse will do if it does not pass soon. I wouldn't wait more than 24 hours I don't think.

OMG. The baby managed to do that? A jawbreaker? ok. I think you should just get the baby to hospital for a check-up and get the jawbreaker removed. Don't buy anything yet because by going so, the condition might worsen and the baby might get hurt. It is best to consult a doctor for advice and treatment- if needed. However, remember to place things that are booty-sized away from her before she does it again!

OK a three year old should not have a jawbreaker, ever, they are far too easy to choke on or aspirate. Second, a three year old should not be taking a bath unsupervised.

Having said that, if the child is not in pain let her see if she can pass it on her own. Be calm as your worry/anxiety will just make her more tense. If it doesn't pass in a few hours, call your doctor for further advice.

little kids will do stupid things, wont they!

I would try to gently reach up and see if I could feel the jawbreaker (use k-y on a finger, who ever has smaller fingers) if its right there at the rectal opening, then she may be able to push it out with no trouble. If you can't feel or see it, or if she seems very uncomfortable, take her to the emergency room. But be prepared for weird looks and probing questions from the staff. Just remember to tell exactly what happened and wha tyou did to fix it and you will be okay.

I would seriously consider taking the child to the emergency room only because the child is obviously not comfortable. If the child wasnt complaining about pain I would just let it come out on it's own with her next bowel movement

I think that is a pretty normal issue with a curious toddler. I'd call a nurse advice line, your local hospital may have one, or the dr office where the child is seen.
Good luck!

DON'T try to get it out yourself. A childs rectal area is sensitive and fragile. You could damage the baby. 2nd...NEVE EVER leave a child unattended in the bathtub!!! That baby could have drowned!! 3rd..go to the doctor and get the kid some relief. I'm sorry to sound so tough but geez...think people!

hahaha! that's kinda funny!

on a serious note, RELAX! my sisters have gotten A LOT of things stuck in, er, places. here's what you do:

1. DONT PANIC
2. are you sure it's up her butt??
3. this might sound weird but i PROMISE it works. stick some vaseline up there. make sure her rectum is well lubricated. then, try and pull it out yourself. feeling weirded out?? use gloves.
4. if that doesnt work, try giving her lots of apple juice. before the day's done, she should crap that bad boy out, provided that the rectum is still lubricated.
5. if that doesnt work (which it should, but still) go to the emergency room. maybe she stuck it waaaay far up her a.ss

It'll probably come out on its own. Don't give her a laxative. If it doesn't come out with her next BM, take her to the doctor, unless she is in a lot of pain, then take her now.
