I would tell my family and close friends, but it turns out that isn't your choice. For the most part, you have no rights to privacy as a lotto winner. In most states, if you win a big jackpot, you can't legally keep your information from the media.
This is from powerball's official site:
All but three states (DE, KS, ND) have laws that require the lottery to release the name and city of residence to anyone who asks. One state (SC) will keep your name secret if you request it, but if someone files a Freedom of Information Act request, you may have to file a plea with the judge to deny it.

I would wonder what kind of friends they were if I couldn't share my good news with them....but....not the minute I realized I'd won.
Other than my spouse and my sister, the first people I would speak to would be an attorney and a financial adviser. Depending on the amount of money I'd won, I think there would be more than enough to spread the wealth, reasonably and responsibly. Since everyone is bound to find out anyway, I think making a prolonged attempt at "hiding" the news would lead to more than just a little animosity. I think I'd be more worried about being deluged with requests from total strangers than I would from my family and friends, most -if not all - of whom I'd be happy to share with anyway.

I really think I would tell only my parents, if u had a functionally family upbringing. If u tell your siblings, it would be like fighting over the will after someone u really love passes. Then if u tell just 1 friend, hon u will have friends crawling out of the woodwork like damn roaches. For sure, I would get an attorney before I did anything. That would be the 1st person I told and then take his advice.

One could probably hide it until the local press tells everyone FOR you.
Most state lotteries tell/blab all to the press. Good luck keeping any large prize a secret.
Sorry... nice idea, tho.

I would tell my family, but I would wait to tell my friends until I'd spoken to a financial advisor.
Money makes people weird.

u can hide it from ur friends but u can't hide it from ur family because u need identification in claiming ur prize. ur family will be the proof of that

No, they would be the first ones I give money to. I would be the second one to give myself the money.
