Hey I highly recommend NOT going to see a physcologist, psychiatrist, or any version of a shrink. 95% of the time the shrink will do his very best to convince you that you would be better off on medication. A shrink will prescribe some sort of anti-depressant obviously like paxel, or possibly even xanax if you also have panic attack type stuff. Xanax is a class two narcotic, and always remember that these drugs only SUPPRESS the symptoms that you are having and they will NEVER CURE ANYTHING. This means that you will wake up in the morning each day for the rest of your life feeling ill until you consume a drug tablet that will mask your true problem. I am not a doctor and I dont know the root of your problem but what I can assure you is the fact that there is no help but self help, my friend. If you end up do getting better through a shrink without drugs it is only because he has guided you through into your own light. In other words: He or she didnt cure you, but she guided you in a direction that helped you to cure yourself. You can only cure yourself, but you might need some assistance from another human being or two.
I personally recommend finding a good martial art school, or a Quigong(Chi-Kung) school and taking something like this. Chi Kung can help you overcome things like depression, or even physical fitness. Delve into a physical fitness routine on a daily basis with aim and passion and this, since it gives you feeling of satisfaction and a desire to live, will help you to eliminate depression.
It might sound a little TOO simple but its not. You need to eat healthy, workout more, possibly join a great martial art dojo. A great martial art teacher would be alot better of a phsycologist than your typical shrink, provided that you find a good one. Once you begin to feel better, the broken pieces around you will begin to shift back in to place as well, if you want them to... You dont need drugs.
I recommend reading this book. "The Warrior Within". It is one of Bruce Lee's books and is edited by John Little. Good luck.

I feel for you and I just want to say to you that you are only responsible for yourself and that you are not responsible for your dad's gambling, that your grandmother died, or that your parents don't get along. Stop taking on excess baggage that don't belong to you.
Here are some superb tips to conquer the melancholy mood and get the most bliss out of your daily activities.
(1) Get Enough Light and Sunshine
Lack of exposure to sunlight is responsible for the secretion of the hormone melatonin, which could trigger a dispirited mood and a lethargic condition.
(2) Get Busy and Get Inspired
You'll be more likely to overcome any feeling of depression if you are too busy to notice it... Live a life full of inspired activities
(3) Take a Relaxing Break
I mean it... Listen to soothing music, soak in a nice warm bath, or ask one of your close friends to massage you... Take a break from your stressful workload and spend the day just goofing around... In other words, have fun.
(4) Eat Right and Exercise
Avoid foods with lots of sugar, caffeine, or alcohol... Sugar and caffeine may give you a brief moment of energy, but they would later bring about anxiety, tension, and internal problems... Recent studies have shown that caffeine is linked to numerous other health problems
(5) Get Yourself a Social Life
No man is an island, your circle of friends are there to give you moral support... Spending time and engaging in worthwhile activities with them could give you a very satisfying feeling... Nothing feels better than having group support.

Your college or university should have a counseling center. Call them, often times to see a school counselor is free of charge, or a very minimal fee. Go talk to your doctor and see if you can be referred to a psychologist or perhaps receive some medication for your symptoms. Ive had similar experiences in life, you are not destined to be miserable, but there are some things you have to do for yourself. Take the first step and go talk to someone that you can have a professional relationship with. Best wishes.

I have dealt with major depressive order and severe anxiety for 5 years now. I have been on a lot of different medications and i am finally straightened out. I would suggest talking with your normal physician and telling him/her what is going on. This is what I did and she helped me find a medicine that was right for me. Some have weird side effects so it may take a bit to find the right one for you, but it really helps. Do not listen to anyone who tells you that you are just weak. Depression is a chemical imbalance in your brain and in my case, when i don't take the medicine i get very crabby and cry every hour but as long as i take my medicine daily, I am fine. It has really changed my life for the better. Good luck and I hope things start looking up for you.

First of all I'm sorry that your having to go through all of this horrible stuff right now, but things will start to turn around. You need to start worring about yourself. You can't fix your dad's problems or your parents marriage problems. Hopefully they will work themselves out.You need to concentrate on yourself. As your friends are concerned f*** them. Sounds like your a cool dude. Go and meet new people make new friends. You may need to find out about a school counselor and talk with him or her about how your feeling. Good luck and God Bless.

Did you know that your advisor at school may have already been set up to pass along the tools to help you train yourself to function and get your work done in spite of drepression? Let him or her know! I must tell you though, you'll be expected to participate in your own treatment, and that could mean medication. That might help you with your thinking that people at school are glaring at you. You also may want to do counseling because you've got to separate your family's problems from your own.

See a therapist. You need some type of meds to help you through this. Your sister doesn't know what the hell she is talking about. Depression can cause a lack of desire to do anything! Don't give up, get help. Ask your school counselor.

Well. That sucks.
All I can tell you is to get over it. You might have to climb a while, seems like a big wall.
If you need to talk, God's always around to listen.
And remember your pulse. As long as it's still beating, you're still alive, and there are only 24 hours in each day. Might sound silly, but it can help.

A counselor or social worker can help you sort out this stuff and teach you some coping skills. That's a lot of stuff to deal with and you don't have to do it alone.
