causation goes the other way - nice, clean and orderly people end up rich.

If you have a drive to be successful, it spills over into other parts of your life. If you do things halfa55ed, or just try to get through life doing the minimal, that is reflected in how you live, how you keep up your home, etc. Granted, your question is a sweeping generalization of society (I know upper class people who are douchebags, and middle class people who care more about humanity than many others) but you do have a valid point. Basically, you get what you put into your life and it shows.

I'm taking from your paragraph that you are in the upper class? Sad to say but not everyone is born with a silver spoon in their mouth. I happen to be a member of the "lower economic class" but that makes you no better than me or me, no less of a person. I'm clean and neat, polite, hospitable, honest and very caring. I don't buy my friends with money or possessions, I have them because I have earned their love and respect and vise versa. Please before you try seperating everyone into classes, which your mind makes one "class" better than the rest, really open your heart and truly see that not everyone fits into this melting pot you have . By the way, as a divorced mother of 3, I work hard for what I have, my kids are fed, clothed, educated, have a home and are happy. What the outside of my home looks like (because it does take money to fix it) doesn't matter but my kids health and well being does. I'm sorry that you suffer from tunnel vision, some day when you get much much older you will find that if you had just opened your eyes and looked past the material world, that you would have found some wonderful people that you dismissed, because of economics, along the way

Maybe because life is good and you're loving your life. And when you're in love, the whole world is in love with you. I'm upper class and had never thought about why I am so nice/polite (other than being from Georgia) in this way until I saw your question. I'm in a women's studies class currently (feels like going into the snake pit most days) and class comes up a lot. Everybody always whines about "oppression". I'm so sick of that word. Grow up!

People always have been and always will be different. You can't make them something they are not. In general at least, there are exceptions to every rule. But there will always be a lower class. for 50 years or more our government has tried to change that, given them cheap housing, food handouts, medical coverage, but they are still what they want to be, not what WE think they should be. Neighborhoods are the way they way they are because "birds of a feather, flock together".

its called money, and it makes all of those things easier to accomplish. Also the upper class neighborhoods dont have as many people. With more people comes more problems. I can sit here and type a bunch of things to explain but to make my life easier... Take a sociology course and get a little educated...

If you paid for and learned this in a sociology class, you should demand your money back. Being polite, refined and having pride in one's self and community is a matter of upbringing, not a function of how much money a person has in their pocket.
You are wrong about one thing. Maintaining a house and keeping a lawn manicured costs a small fortune.

At least the middle and lower class believe in manners, and being polite, when was the last time you saw a truly polite person from the upper class? Think about it.

The upper class believe they are better than the rest. So they act so nice to your face then talk about you when out of site. They are so worried about appearance they could care less about the rest of society. UNLESS it benefits them
