Never too old to nap, as long as it doesn't interfere with the bed time. Heck, I still nap :)

Geez, be happy your kid's still taking a nap! You're getting a break! I think that I could take a daily nap too and I'm 31. I think the biggest reason kids stop taking naps is school - or parents don't bother with it. My daughter is 3 1/2 also. Sometimes I can get her to take a nap, sometimes I can't. The days I can't, she's grumpy and falls asleep if she happens to be in the car or in the stroller on a walk around 5 or 6 pm. And we don't get up as early as you.

It just depends on the individual child. I have 2 adopted children that are 4 months apart. The younger one who will be 4 in March doesn't need a nap in the afternoon but the older one who turned 4 the end of October still needs a nap. Almost every afternoon she falls asleep watching Calliou or Curious George.

I know a boy who is almost 5 who takes a nap still. My son is 2.5 and does not nap but we get up late and he sleeps 8 am - 8 pm. The way I knew my kids had outgrown their naps was that when they napped they would have a lot of trouble going to sleep or would not go to bed and keep getting up.

I have 3 daughters and all were different in ages when naps pretty much stopped. I think that as long as you're comfortable with how well your child sleeps during the night, nap times shouldn't be a concern. Only if you find your child waking up during the night, might you consider stopping his naps.
Good luck!

He'll let you know when he's ready to give them up.
My first napped daily until he started Kindergarten (and some days during school rest time!). My second stopped at 2 years old. My third just stopped and he's 4 yrs.
He sounds perfectly normal...especially getting up so early.

They still have "nap time" in Kindergarten. So, I'd say let him sleep if he needs a nap. I wish I could go back and take a nap everyday!

your never too old for a good nap but 3-5 yo usually seem to think they are too big for a regular nap and just end up grumpy and sleepy (falling asleep in the car)

As long as he is still going to bed at a reasonable time, then the nap is a good thing for him.

When it is hard to get them to bed at night is when it is time to give up the nap. Otherwise, they still need it. The time to end it varies from child to child.
