Gin and Tequila are both liquor aka spirits. The others are Vodka, Rum, Whisky (or Whiskey), Brandy and Absinthe. Typically they're 40% and up.
You will know how strong it is by looking at the percentage on the labels. The percentage is the indication of how much alcohol it is, therefore, how strong each bottle is.
But if your choice are tequila and gin. I'd say Tequila is stronger than the other. (plus, great for body shots *wink*) I would suggest a "Jose Cuervo" brand of tequila if there are any available.
Oh and, dont forget the lime and salt. ^_^

All are classified as liquor.
The strength depends on the "proof" rating.
80 proof liquor is 40% alcohol. 100 proof liquor is 50% alcohol and therefore stronger
100 proof gin is stronger than 80 proof tequila. 100 proof tequila is stronger than 80 proof gin. Both are liquor.
Tequila is liquor that is distilled from the agave plant, mostly in Mexico.
Gin is distilled from juniper berries and grains like barley. It gets a distinctive pine flavor and aroma from the juniper.
Other liquors are vodka, rum, and whiskey like bourbons, blends, Scotch or Irish Whiskey. Whiskey is made from corn, barley, wheat, rye or other grains. Rum is distilled from sugar cane. Vodka originated from potato, but can be distilled from grain.
Some alcoholic beverages are called liqueurs or cordials, and are different from liquor. They have considerably less alcohol. Examples are Frangelica, Amaretto, Kahlua. They are made from fruits, grains, nuts and berries. Kahlua is made from coffee beans. Some recipes are centuries old. Frangelica as a medicine created by Frangelican monks long ago. It has a hazelnut flavor.
Most alcoholic beverages began as medicine. Gin is one. It was originally a medicinal tonic, until British soldiers in India learned they could get drunk on it.

Vodka is defenantly not a girl drink, just look at the Russians, tell your friends if their girlfriends drink it, they'll have to were babushkas. Alcohol is measured in proof, most liquor is 80 or 86 proof. Good booze shoudn't be mixed, Scotch is a good drink on the rocks, real manly, Rum you can mix with coke.. Get a book on mixed drinks, it will tell you what is best. Mr. Boston is a good one.. Cheers.
