One big disadvantage to getting an all-in-one is that if one component stops working (like the printer), then the whole unit is shot. That's what happened on my Epson all-in-one, and all we're left with after only one year is a very expensive scanner. I'd recommend getting a separate printer and scanner - you can send scans to the printer and use it like a copier. HP makes the best printers in my opinion - I've only had two and haven't needed to buy one in years!

I have a Brother 420 CN. It is pretty nice, you can plug it into your network with a cat 5 cable, you can use a USB to hook into one computer, and you can hook a phone line in so that you can fax without going through the computer.

It has 4 different cartridges, 1 for each color and to replace is not expensive, but I bought a generic ink refill kit and it works great (makes it even cheaper). Approx cost of unit $120 from Wal-mart.

For reliability...HP....but the cartridges are expensive.
For cheapness..Brother.
Don't get a Dell....the cartridges are not available in stores.
