As a previous HR person, I can tell you there are several different sites and agencies that provide that service.

Depending on whether they are checking credit (social security number) or criminal (driver's license number) or employment/residential (whatever the employer/landlord wants usually driver's license numbers and correct addresses.

If you were adopted those records are sealed and hard to break for free. if you have a mother or family member who may know something, thats your best bet. Information like that is almost never totally free on the internet.

If you know the state he was born in you can contact that counties' records depatment through that specific courthouse.
