ARMY OF GOD

apparently they think that is the way of it.. why else would they constantly be here posting questions that are obviously intended to do nothing more than 'stir the religious waters'
i have no problem whatsoever with them choosing to believe that there is no god. i just wish they would quit trying to fight about it. it's not their beliefs that make me dislike them. it's what they do with their beliefs.

This is a wonder generalization.

Because atheists don't recognize God (due to the lack of evidence [facts]) that doesn't mean that they don't have beliefs. Nor does it mean that you are not entitled to beliefs. However, if you participate in a public forum, then you must expect to have your beliefs challenged. Just a little bit about beliefs:

“To believe in something is not the same as knowing something. Intrinsic to the concept of belief is (the) implication that there is an opposite to belief, disbelief. Not everyone will believe something is true, but all sane and rational people will acknowledge an observable fact.

The only way belief can be experienced is in the mind. Facts can be experienced both in the mind and by the senses...and what is more, unlike a mental hallucination, the sensory experience can be shared with others.

It is a common error of human beings to allow belief, to allow a mental construct accepted on faith, to become so important, so obsessive, that it is taken as the same thing as fact. Indeed, there are many emotional reasons why a person might be driven to do this, but it still remains that any belief is purely mental whatever it's origin, and the mind can be mistaken.

This means that all beliefs have as part of them an implied doubt. Facts cannot be doubted, they are observably real.

When belief is assumed to be fact, when this mistake is made by a mind clouded by a motivation to assume belief as fact, that belief is considered beyond doubt, just as is a fact.

Beliefs beyond doubt are inherently dangerous. They are dangerous because they are often acted upon as though they were facts, and the inherent weakness of this is that a belief is not a fact.

Beliefs can be, and often are, wrong.” (Jennifer Diane Reitz)

So yes, you are entitled to your beliefs, but expect them to be challenged in a public forum and don't expect them to be given the status of knowledge unless they are based on facts, not assumptions, not "faith", and not simple authority. Facts and empirical evidence are what knowledge is based on.

Oh no that's not true at all.

I'm an atheist but all my family and most of my friends believe in God.

I respect their beliefs....and they respect mine.

If believing in God makes their lives better then I say good for them.

You either don't know any atheists personally or you're just being sarcastic.....either way that's sad.

what are you talking about!! and what is with the "Army of God" this makes no sense!! just because atheists don't believe in anything doesn't entitle everyone else to...that is just them and their situation!! If you are apart of God's army i see that there is no point in this question!! you need to get a reality check!! but you are entitled to believe in anything that you please and should not feel threatened just because of a group of people!! but if you are apart of God's army just stay strong and not make anything keep you from standing strong on your faith!!!!!

Nobody said they aren't ALLOWED to believe, they just don't WANT to. But your point of view seems to be the same on either side of the equation. Agnostics are stuck in the middle and it is rather amusing to watch the show from that viewpoint.

I think you have that all wrong. Atheists choose to believe the way they believe because they have a choice, just as we choose to believe differently. Respect their choice. This is why we are called fanatical idiots. I am employed by two atheists, and we respect each other`s beliefs, and we do not push one another`s beliefs on the other out of respect. They know I am Christian, and I know they are atheists.

I just know a bible thumper gave me the thumbs down, but this only proves my point.

Believe in what you want, but when you start telling us things that are very unlikely like "God is real" it seems like "Santa is real" ALL over again! Would you take people seriously if they kept telling you Santa is real past the age of oh lets say 10?

You can believe whatever stupid thing you want, but when you think it is a violation of your rights if you are denied the opportunity to use the coercive power of the state to shove your god down my throat, you are a Bible Nazi.

But Atheists do believe in many things.

Atheists even believe there is NO god.

Nope.

Atheists do believe in something. They believe that there is no God.

Who are "we"? The people who believe there is a god?

Everyone has beliefs, and ultimately what we believe doesn't matter. When we die I don't think we'll be bringing our beliefs with us. But, hey, that's just a belief too.

Atheism is not enforced and should not enforce any body to be atheist . It comes naturally or by convincing.
