The word Atheist should not even be a word. For example, do people that are not doctors call themselves non-doctors. Do christians call themselves non-jews? Do you know any people that label themselves non-engineers?
For the same reason that theists believe that other theists are wrong, we believe that all theists are wrong. For example Muslims believe that Christians are wrong and Jews are wrong. Is it not so hard that we believe that just ONE more religious group is wrong than you do?

An atheist embraces the position that there is no God based on a lack of evidence (facts, not beliefs) of God's existence. Atheists do no "deny" God because according to the facts, no God exists.
There is an inherent weakness in most cases for God's existence in that they rely on beliefs, not facts; they are full of assumptions and conjecture, not empircal evidence.
“To believe in something is not the same as knowing something. Intrinsic to the concept of belief is (the) implication that there is an opposite to belief, disbelief. Not everyone will believe something is true, but all sane and rational people will acknowledge an observable fact.
The only way belief can be experienced is in the mind. Facts can be experienced both in the mind and by the senses...and what is more, unlike a mental hallucination, the sensory experience can be shared with others.
It is a common error of human beings to allow belief, to allow a mental construct accepted on faith, to become so important, so obsessive, that it is taken as the same thing as fact. Indeed, there are many emotional reasons why a person might be driven to do this, but it still remains that any belief is purely mental whatever it's origin, and the mind can be mistaken.
This means that all beliefs have as part of them an implied doubt. Facts cannot be doubted, they are observably real.
When belief is assumed to be fact, when this mistake is made by a mind clouded by a motivation to assume belief as fact, that belief is considered beyond doubt, just as is a fact.
Beliefs beyond doubt are inherently dangerous. They are dangerous because they are often acted upon as though they were facts, and the inherent weakness of this is that a belief is not a fact.
Beliefs can be, and often are, wrong.” (Jennifer Diane Reitz)

a credible atheist does not say there is no god because that is unprovable. What we say is we believe in things as far as they can be proved by science or direct observation.
Atheists: by definition do not believe in the god of theism - a personal god. Many atheist, however, like Einstein, keep open the possible of an earth god type energy that is not concerned with punishing the objects of it's creation but actively binds the universe and maintains order as far as science can prove it's existence.

Atheism by definition is not a belief at all. In fact, it is the absence of belief in any deity. They commonly use evolution as the basis of their evidence against God.Generally they are nice , intelligent people who simply cannot take the leap of faith required to believe in a God they have never seen.

A person who doesn't believe in god.
There are basically three types.
One type does belive in Judges, Police, Rules, Jail, Society, Driving the Speed Limit, pay taxes, listening to their mothers, listening to their spouses, doing what they are told to do by their bosses or superiors, paying penance when required by society and living in fear the man come and take you away. They are, hence, subserviant to something or something.
The second type doesn't beleive in any of that and ends up on the FBI 10 most wanted list. Nothing is above them, no man, no God. There are no rules except those they make up. They give nothing or pay nothing to no one. The obey no one. They are totally free of any and all beleif systems. The suscribe to no rules. They are not subserviant.
The thrid type subjugated everyone who does not beleive exactly as they do using force, police, armies and Secret Police organizations. They attempt to remove all religion from society and brain wash the young into reporting family and friends who do and say anti-social things or do not follow the party line as expounded by the leadership. They put antisocial people into re-educations camps or prisons and they are not let out until their repent their ways and agree to follow the rules of the society.

Atheism is the disbeliefin the existence of deities. It is commonly defined as the explicit (i.e., conscious and deliberate), positive rejection and denial of theism;however, others—including most atheistic philosophers and groups—define atheism as the simple absence of belief in deities (cf. nontheism), thereby designating many agnostics and people who have never heard of gods, such as newborn children, as atheists as well. The former, narrower usage defines atheism positively, as the belief that no gods exist; the latter, broader usage, however, defines atheism negatively, as the absence of belief in gods. In recent years, some atheists have adopted the terms strong and weak atheism for the former and latter, respectively, to clarify whether they consider their stance one of positive belief or of negative unbelief.
Many self-described atheists share common skeptical concerns regarding empirical evidence for spiritual or supernatural claims. They cite a lack of evidence for the existence of deities. Other rationales for atheism range from the personal to the philosophical to the social to the historical. Additionally, while atheists tend to accept secular philosophies such as humanism, naturalism and materialism, they do not necessarily adhere to any one particular ideology, nor does atheism have any institutionalized rituals or behaviors.
Atheism is very often equated with irreligion or nonspirituality in Western culture, but they are not the same. Some religious and spiritual beliefs, such as several forms of Buddhism, have been described by outside observers as conforming to the broader, negative definition of atheism due to their lack of any participating deities.Atheism is also sometimes erroneously equated with antitheism (opposition to theism) or antireligion (opposition to religion).

In a broad, general sense, there are two belief systems:
Dualism is the belief that there is physical matter and "spiritual" matter (stuff that cant be seen, toutched, felt, smelt, etc. The stuff god and angels and ESP is made of).
Monism is the belief that there is only one type of matter in the universe: the physical matter all around us.
Atheists are monists. The basic argument is that you must be able to prove that something exists, not prove it DOESN'T exist (as many dualists argue). For example, you can't PROVE that there ISN'T an invisible, silent, insubstantial pink unicorn standing behind you RIGHT NOW.
Atheists require proof that god exists.
There is a quote (I forget who) of a scientist when asked "what would it take for you to belive in creationism?" he replied
"Just one rabbit skeleton in the pre-cambrian strata."
Thats all it would take. And yet it has never happened.

the definition of atheists is one who has no belief in a god/gods or any supernatural being. so atheists dont believe in ANY religion. most atheists believe in science, the theory of evolution. and for morals, we believe in common sense morals like "treat others how you want to be treated". stuff like that. many people who are atheist have been in a religion before deciding to become an athiest. if you have any questions about atheist or why people decided to become atheist...go to this forum:
