I had a total hysterectomy in April of 2005 because of ovarian cancer. I had a mastectomy 16 years ago-breast cancer-so our situations are similar. I had already gone through menopause when I had breast cancer so that was not an issue after my hysterectomy. The hysterectomy wasn't pleasant but it wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. There was soreness for 3 or 4 weeks. I picked up an infection after I returned home from the hospital where my surgery was done and ended up in the hospital here at home for 3 days. The antibiotic made me sick but once I was through taking it, I felt much better. My surgery was done by a GYN oncology surgeon and he must have done a good job because, since the second of 6 chemo treatments (which I finished 9/05) my CA125 results have been perfectly normal. In fact, I had my Mediport removed this past Thurs. as my onologist saw no further need for it.
I've tried to touch on info you might be imterested in but if you want to talk, please contact me.

Hi,
My wife had a hysterectomy some years back. The reason that she had to go though this was because of excessive bleeding. It wasn't until after she had the surgery that we discovered that she had cancer. We both were ... well ... scared. Very SCARED!! They sent her uterus off to be biopsied. Let me tell you we did a lot of praying. We had family members, friends, neighbors, people that we both worked for and our church praying. I don't know your situation as far as family, friends or etc. but I hope that they all are using the power of prayer for His help to heal you. I too will send up a prayer "SOS for His hand to touch you and rid you of this". I also hope that if there are other people reading this that they too will send up prayers for you for a fast & speedy recovery.
As far as my wife (I've gotten off from what I was saying about her) the cancer had not made it through to the wall and it was confined to the uterus. Oh!! What a relief. She still had to go back ... ever so often to be checked to make sure it would not return.
I don't know how to, nor would I tell you not to worry about this, for all any of us can do would be to leave it in the hands of God and pray. As I'm setting here typing this I wish I could reach through this computer and remove this. I can’t do that but I'll keep you in my prayers and I ask for others, that they too will pray for you and that be removed and never to re-enter your body. There is power in prayer! May God Bless You & Keep You.

Yes, last year at age 31, I had a complete hysterectomy and lymph node dissection for endometrial cancer. I had a benign lump removed from my breast this year. Email me if you would like-the eyesontheprize.org website is helpful, too. Best wishes.
