Hi Tara, The Worst Outcome I Ever Had In Decorating Lead To A 000 Call To The Ambos And A Date With A Plastic Surgeon At Sydney Hospital. It All Started When I Was Trying To Re fix Some Skirting Board By Making Wall Plugs. Basically I Had An Accident With A Power Plane And De-Padded Three Fingers On My Right Hand. As If That Wasn't Bad Enough I Had To Cut My Visit To My Fiance Short And Return To England And For One Reason and Another I've Been Stuck Here Separated From My Loved Ones For Nearly Two Years Now. If That Isn't Among The Worst Of The Outcomes, I Don't Know What Is. I Guess I'm Lucky That It Wasn't Worse But I Sure Miss My Fiance And The Two Kids.
Thank You For Your Question And Keep Up The Great Show. God Bless Us Every One And Have A Gooday.

I got tangled in wallpaper. The decorating jobs I've done turned out really Good! One lady didn't like the black accent lines on the red curtains. The black lines made the black lamps blend in. She didn't want that. The worst thing that happened because of redecorating a place.. My Landlord raised the rent cause it no longer looked like a dump and I didn't keep records of the cost of redecorating the place. So the Landlord lied and said he did it and that the rent increase was justified. I learned my lesson never to redecorate a rented apartment again! I don't want the rent to go up! I don't want to move. I did have the Landlords permission: He told me that I could do what I want as long as I didn't wreck the place!
Oh one time I got my feet stuck in the cement steps.. Luckily there was some acetone that melted the shoes from the cement thereby I was able to free my feet!

I wasn't the one who did the redecorating, for the record. It was my mother.
My Mum broke her arm a few years ago on a skiing trip, and so had nothing really better to do but watch television. What did she watch, you ask? Home decorating shows. >.>;;
After her arm healed, she started getting all these ideas and started saying that she would repaint my parents' en suite bathroom. Dad refused to believe that she would and just kept telling her not to, thinking that she wouldn't actually go through with the repaint.
Lo' and behold, I came home one day after school and Mum got me to come into their room so that I could see what she had done. It wasn't that bad at first, a nice pale yellow colour. She had also attempted to repaint the cupboard doors for the cupboards under the sink, but... sadly, she didn't put on an even coat of white.
When I came home the next day, she brought me into their en suite again... and this time, it was blue and yellow. And not just any blue, a navy bluish colour that didn't really go with the yellow that well. Dad, needless to say, wasn't impressed (neither was I for that matter, it looked horrendous), and forbade her from ever painting anything in the house ever again.
Mum reinstalled the cupboard doors... and then spilt nail polish on the wall AND the cupboards somehow... red nail polish. Dad was again, displeased, and ended up having to sand off all of the paint (did I mention she had somehow textured the paint as well?) and then repaint it.
Thankfully, their en suite is now a lovely periwinkle colour, and we have a nice new sink, cupboards, and a granite counter top. =D

Well, I bought a house for 30k, it was on the papers for over 120k, the guy had let it go bad, but I thought I could do it, so I got it. You couldn't even see the floors! So I didn't really back out of the deal, I went through, but 4 acres around it(1k ea) Tore the ceiling in the living room out to redo it, tore down a couple walls to expand living areas. The house is a 4 bed/2bath2 living/1kit/2 car gar. Someone called and wanted the house as is, this is truly a great deal, but the problem is, we never fixed the house! It was sold for 98k, we didn't put much into it, but yet, It was truly the worse.

The worst outcome I have had for decoration was back in the 80's when black was in! I purchased a black dining room table and chairs tv unit, coffee table china cabinet, and then my peice of resistance Or madness I brought a black lounge with huge yellow flowers on it! I then proceeded to paint a feature wall in the lounge room a fire engine red, I was happy with it until I actually sat down and looked at what I had done, my husband at the time just said he was moving out until I redecorated it, I saved him the trouble I moved out instead! and left him with it!

I wanted to paint my living room a "warm" taupe, and spent hours and hours picking just the right shade of taupe. I bought 2 gallons of one of the very best paints, and proceeded to paint my living room, hallway, and up the stairs.
I painted and painted, and got my living room all put back together, and the sudden realization hit me.....it was DESERT ROSE on the walls! AKKK!
I then realized that the paint I used tended to make it much "warmer" than what I wanted, and combined with the Bombay Mahogany color of my furniture, it made it look very pink.
I then went shopping for something similar, but with more brown "ish". I bought a gallon of that, did one wall, and it looked fine, so I proceeded to paint the rest again. Geez, when it was all painted, it looked pink again!
Back to the paint store I went, and tried one more. Third time was the charm, and finally got the color I wanted.
Now, just so that you have some background, I also do watercolors, and am quite good at color theory and mixing. I['ve painted pretty much every home I've ever owned at least once. However, for some reason, the reflected light of this particular room and the pigment of the paint caused a reddish reflection throughout the room, giving me the pinkish hue.

Getting someone in to paint the wall of my house.
Personally a 2 year old could have kept the paint from going all over the carpet, tiles. Brick work. etc.
After paying out 2k and living with the results for 4years.
I'm trying to get up the courage to do it again.
If i should just tackle it myself (health problems) makes it hard.
Or if i should pay for someone to come in and do it.
The mess from the first time really kicked me back on all the projects i wanted to do around the place. it was a real let down.

Honestly, anything that I have tried to do myself. I have discovered over the years that in spite of all my good intentions and hopes and ideas that I am neither a handyman or a decorator. I can picture exactly what I want to do, how I am going to do it and what the finished job will look like. I assemble all the necessary equipment, shoo everyone out of my way, then roll my sleeves up to get started. Everything goes perfectly for the first half hour, then my handiest tool is the telephone to phone someone to clear up the mess that I have made and finish the job.

I used to live in a house that had a rusting corrugated iron roof and peeling paint on the house proper.
I decided that it immediately required a fresh coat, with the roof needing a brilliant silver .... a fresh new summer look if you will :)
Unfortunately, I didn't really consider the Brisbane heat and the blinding reflection that is caused by silver coated corrugated iron from the roof.
I ended up only painting in half hour periods due to the amazing heat generated by the iron and having to purchase welding mask strength sunglasses for the job.
My house was in total disarray for well over 2 weeks and ended in quite frankly a half-baked job and me vowing to call in a professional the next time i had a crazy idea about DIY :)

One time I stripped old wallpaper off all the walls and ceilings. I cleaned off the glue and prepped the plaster real good, and put on a coat of oil primer. It was a rainy, damp, cool November day when I tried to put on a coat of 100% acrylic on the walls. There wasn't much heat in the building and the paint didn't dry and just kept running down the walls. I had a friend bring in a fan, but I still had to roll out that paint for 4 hours.
