Be yourself.
Don't change to suit another person.
Keep your own interests.
Spend time together.
Don't neglect your friends.
Go out on dates just the two of you and with others.
Talk a lot about everything.
Watch for signs of passive-aggressive hostility as a signal to break up.
Make sure he likes you for you and isn't just after sex.
If your friends don't like him, there's probably a good reason.
Be aware of signs of emotional abuse as a signal to break up.
Be aware that no one can be everything.
Don't depend too much on someone else for your own sense of self-worth and self-esteem.
Take time for yourself.
Don't be clingy or insecure.
Don't be jealous of other females. It's okay to have friends of the opposite sex.
And again, most of all, just be yourself. If someone is the right person for you, he will accept you as you are and appreciate you as you are, and never ask you to change.
Hope this helps. Cheers, K (teacher for 14 years, age 38, happily married 2nd time around after a brief first "starter marriage" where I learned a lot, both positively and negatively... mainly what I just told you!)
