The Churches fo Christ believe the Bible to be the absloute final Word fo God and that it contains the plan for mankind's redemption from sin. They take the position that we are not to add to, nor take from scripture. They teach that baptism is essential for salvation, as it is obedience to Christs command to be born again. Baptism as written in the original language of the Bible at the time of Christ meant that one would be fully be dipped (emmersed) in water, that it represents the ressurection of Christ from the grave and showed obedience to His will. They do not include musical instruments in worship, singing is vocal only. They partake in the Lord's Supper each Sunday. Missions are supported worldwide. Each church is independent and able to support missions or other works as the local bishops or elders see fit. There is no synod or pope or governing body oversight outside of the local congregation.
In years past members would tell non-members that if you were not a member of the church of Christ you were going to hell. Of course that does not sit well with any other religious group, Christian or otherwise. However the meaning was misconstrued in that one must belong to Christ's church, not someone else church as there is no other name under heaven by which mankind could or would be saved from eternal death and separation from God. Members are from moderate, conservative to ultra conservative, for example some believe it wrong to have a kitchen in the church building, widows and orphans must be taken into individuals homes not institutionalized. Acts of homosexuality are not tolerated as the Book of Romans clearly says it is not to be a part of one's life, but the person is loved and admonished to abstain from such relationships, as is alcohol abuse, gossip and more. Divorce and remarriage has a narrowly defined "just cause". Governing structure is Christ is the head of the church, no pope or head bishop. Elders (or bishops) are the "overseers" of each congregtation. All members are considered "saints". There is no outside creed or book like the Catholic church or Methodist church use. Prayers are directed to God via Christ. Peter is not considered the "head" of the church, only Christ.
I would also note that of all Christian groups, most of us agree on about 95% of Biblical teaching, any one of us could substitute one minister for the others and preach Gensis thru John with few or no varations, but when we get to Acts, we split over church structure, matters of faith and salvation. We are saved by grace, we must believe that Christ is God's Son, but we must also obey Christ to come into is grace. Baptism is obedience, and the result of a professed faith in action. Faith without action is not faith, but is dead.
I have not included the specific scripture related to the ideology behind the Church of Christ but Bible students will recognise scripture and can look it up for themselves if it is important to them. Acts 2:38 ius where they take their name, although it is nto the only referrenc to God's church name. It is also referred to as the "Disciples of Christ", "Church of God" but born again believers were mostly referred to as "the saints" or "Christians".
There is much more, and your best bet is a correspondence course if you really are interested or curious. I'd be happy to have you placed on a free correspondence list if you like and are really interested in a study.
It is a true statement: "You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free." Jesus Christ.

Minority! for a start up you'll be able to desire to appreciate that attempting to declare something is genuine Christian is why Christianity has been cut up into over 39,500 distinctive denominations, sects and cults placing Christian against Christian and Christians against every physique else! God's paintings? infrequently! then you certainly could desire to look on the reality approximately Christian numbers! The church homes very own figures instruct merely 28% who declare to be Christian ever attend church in a 365 days. certainly if 28% ever tried to attend church on the comparable day, even working shifts, there is merely not sufficient church homes! yet count quantity the bars - in many places there is extra area in the bars than the church homes! count quantity all the seats in each and every church in a city and evaluate that to the inhabitants and that's extremely not likely to attain even 5%! that's genuine suitable in the time of the Bible belt and in Salt Lake city! bypass on have the braveness to count quantity the seats! Then attempt attending a service in each and every church and notice how a lot of those seats are empty! Christianity is at the instant in severe decline and that's almost certainly to di with the intolerance that's transforming into to be prevalent for!

I am a member of the church of Christ.
We believe the Bible is the word of God, and will be happy to give Bible back-up (book, chapter, and verse) for the things we teach, practice, call ourselves, and the way we organize. This is a very conservative view.
If someone believes something is true, then he has to believe anything that contradicts that view is false, otherwise he does not truly believe what he claims to affirm.
Denominations split into separate groups because they teach things that contradict each other. Many teach something, but they are not bold enough in their beliefs to say that when someone teaches a contradictory doctrine, that they are false.
To me, this shows a lack of conviction about what one claims to confirm. This is subjective "truth" without any foundation. There are no absolutes with this reasoning.
But, if you believe in absolute truth, then anything else, you have to believe it is not truth. Many in the church of Christ (including myself) believe the things we teach are true, as taught in the Bible.
This being said, I must believe that if someone teaches something else, they teach error.
People get mad if you suggest their religious beliefs are error. People got mad when Jesus did the same, to the point that they killed Him.
(By the way, those simply known as the "Church of Christ" are not the same as the "Boston movement", as listed in one of the other answers to your question.)

Churches of Christ teach that you must be baptized in order to be saved. Mostly they depend on Acts 2:38 for this teaching Acts 2:38
Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
They get kinda legalistic about it. Some even say that the only valid baptism is that done by a Church of Christ.
Others denominations teach that you are saved by faith. My church depends on Ephesians 2:8-9
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
We believe that people should be baptized as their first obedience to Christ as their new Lord and Savior, but not as a condition for being saved. Kinda fine line there.
Other distinctions is that many Church of Christ don't allow musical instruments in their worship, and they have the Lord's Supper at almost every church service. Most other Protestant's use musical instruments in worship, and may take the Lord's Supper (A.K.A Communion, Eucharist) irregularly, or on a set schedule like one a month, or once a quarter.
There are other small things, but those are the biggest ones.

I assume you mean the Church of Christ and not Christianity in general. I knew a minister from this denomination (nice guy). The only thing I know that they are different from other Christians is they don't believe in music in the church. The basis: where the Bible speaks, they speak; where the Bible is silent, they are silent. Since the Bible doesn't mention music in worship services, they don't use it. Can't see that means that much to me, but I attended a funeral in one once, and I didn't really think it was that different.

They think they are the only Christians and that anyone that does not worship as they do are not going to heaven.
They do not believe in instumental music or choirs and they also believe that those who engage in such are sinning.
They believe that one does not recieve salvation until they have been baptized.
But the main reason they draw a lot of skeptical attention is that many of them are mean as a snake full of legalism and devoid of any tolerance of other beliefs. They practice what is called disfellowshipping where they publicly kick out those they consider "false teachers" which just happens to be any one that does not agree with their very rigid "legalistic" teaching.

Interestingly, some time ago I came across an article on PLAGIARISE and it was surprising to say the list. It was about some editour who was the Churches of Christ minister who plagiarized so many articles from the Watchtower and Awake! magazines, they being published chiefly in a denominational paper, Gospel Broadcast. This plagiarism was exposed in the January 15, 1954, issue of this journal.
In January 15, 1954, issue of The Watchtower published an article entitled “Do You Respect Plagiarists?” It exposed repeated plagiarism of articles from our publications by a [Churches of Christ] minister and a Churches of Christ editor, these plagiarized articles appearing as their own in the Gospel Broadcast, a Churches of Christ paper published in Dallas, Texas. When this practice of plagiarism was made public in The Watchtower a written apology was received by us from the minister and the editor, which we accepted. The February 11, 1954, issue of Gospel Broadcast published the exchange of letters.
Four months after the Church of Christ "editours" promise to quit plagiarism the Gospel Broadcast of September 17 published almost in its entirety an article from the February 8, 1953, Awake! and their issue of September 24 carried an article copied paragraph for paragraph from the June 8 Awake! But 'Church of Christ' still feels that the Gospel Broadcast readers are too prejudiced to take truth straight from the original source; so he took full credit. The October 8 Gospel Broadcast again carried reprints from The Watchtower with typist its editours posing as the author. As he had frequently done before, he even used our title, “The Greater Happiness of Giving,” in copying from our August 1 issue.

They are opposed to hearing the real truth about God. Instead, they believe in something else that is false and really will not bring any joy at all. There has always been bad things spoken about the Christian faith and there always will be.
