Last night my stepson discovered a lump about the size of a large egg on his right side under the dog's ribs. The dog seems perfectly fine and I think if it were an abcess he would be sick or uncomfortable..I am concerned about cancer..Anybody with some expierence with this pls give your opinion..I know to see a vet, but I don' have alot of extra money for that. P.S I live in Canada

With alot of lumps it doesn't seem to affect dogs until it is a really large size. the lump that you have discovered is it sitting just underneath the skin, and doesn't really feel like it attached to anything? if so your most likely looking at a fatty cyst which can be left alone unless it grows or is of a really large size (eg size of football) but even still doesn't hurt to take your dog to a vet, if costs are a problem shelter vets are alot cheaper than just you local vet clinic. Cancers tend to be more internal than just underneath the skin but not always the case so i do recommend seeing your vet for a more definite answer.

Hope that's helped all the best.

There are benign tumors that can occur in older dogs and they are more common than cancers, but you will only know if you go to the vet. Wouldn't you be relieved to find out it is a fatty tumor. That's not an uncommon place for one. Still if it is cancer, you need to know and make plans. Be realistic with your vet and he/she will be more so with you. There may be local funds to help you at the SPCA or other group. If you can't afford treatment and there is no help, you can at least get an idea of the rate of progression and a lesson in gaging your animal's level of suffering, so that you will know when to take action. Some cancers are so slow that an older pet suffers less from it than from treatment. Anyway it's probably a fatty tumor and you will be able to breath again.

You've GOT to take him to the vet. My dog had cancer for quite a while before we actually found out what it was, and she NEVER acted like it bothered her, so I'm not so sure that it actually hurts, as opposed to something like an infection. We had it removed, but it came back a few years later and eventually killed her. But, to extend your dog's life by a few years, I'd say that's worth the money.

If he has on no account been used till now, the possibility is you does not get a acceptable mating - stud dogs usually could desire to be experienced to be smart, it not merely a query of putting 2 dogs collectively and hoping for the acceptable. No in charge proprietor could think of of making use of their GSD for breeding with out having them hip scored, elbow graded and (for adult males) having them examined for haemophilia. Hip scoring demands a popular anaesthetic and it does not be honest to place an eleven 365 days previous in probability with a GA

As my dog has gotten older, she has gotten several fatty tissue cysts. I have been told that typically if they move around under the skin, they are harmless. If they don't there is more concern. I have had each of them tested just to make sure regardless. I hope he is ok!

its pretty common for older dogs to get lumps and bumps as they get older. most of them dont get much bigger than a golf ball though. for it to be that big i would take him to the vet. it could be cancer, a benign tumor, an absess, many things..unfortunately its not cheap to own a dog, but he cant take himself to the vet, he only has you. cockapoos can live to be 15+ years old. his teeth(esp the back molars) are probably green, brown and covered in thick tartar like most dogs, which is extremely painful which is why alot of older dogs dont eat as much and dont like you messing with their face. ive seen such bad teeth infections that the gums, and teeth are covered in pus. taking them to the vet to get them cleaned is about $150 US dollars or more so like most pets owners they see the cute little puppy and want it but dont ever imagine how much it costs to PROPERLY take care of them.....
