Self Genital mutilation?

I just saw a video of a guy cutting off his own genitals, completely, everything... my question is, why would ANYONE do this?Is there some wacked out religious cult where they do this? Is it a cultural thing somewhere? I feel nauseous, I may have to hurl soon.......

Men who intentionally mutilate or remove their own genitals are likely to be psychotic at the time of the act, to have a number of goals and aims relating to conflicts about the male role, and to be vulnerable to sociocultural and psychological forces in a causal network as yet unknown. Genital self-mutilation is seldom reported; fewer than 100 cases have been reported in the literature to date. Few studies have examined the factors that may lead susceptible individuals to undertake this act. I have heard of a case of genital self-mutilation by 22-year-old man who cut off his penis with an electric chain saw. This patient, who also demonstrated borderline intellectual functioning as evidenced by psychological testing, was likely influenced by the popular media, which was showcasing the criminal trials of John and Lorena Bobbitt and the time of the patient's act. This is likely the result of a severe and acute mental illness, an off-shoot of body dysmorphic disorder, or related to an extreme religious guilt-induced psychosis. Perhaps in very rare cases, ity may be the desperate act of an mentally ill individual with transgender identity issues, although Transgendered or Transexual individual are not necessarily mental ill.

In any case, it is shocking and sad. And is not at all a common, or commonly reported, incident.

My sympathies. I once saw something similar - a female circumcision - some 17 years ago on CNN. They didn't show the details, but it was enough to stick with me the rest of my life.

There was a cult that did this - Heaven's Gate. However, every member that went through with the genital mutilation also committed suicide. They believed it they cut the offending items off, then they would be pure for the alien race that was coming for them to take them "home".

Cutting, rearranging, cuircumcision - both male and female - can be found in many cultures, often as rights of passage into adulthood.

I could go into details, but I don't think you want to really hear them right now; you will throw up for sure then.

As to why would they do it? For some cultures, it is an issue of control over the less dominant sex. For others, it is a mark of pride and adulthood. For cults, it's a matter of serious brainwashing and mind control. For those who do it to themselves, IMO, it is indeed a sign of mental illness.

However, Satanists do NOT self mutilate, nor do they kill babies, etc Someone seriously needs to learn about things and not keep spreading urban myths. It's just plain ignorant.

This is a very very very extreme form of self-harm. Most people don't Self-harm to this extent. It all leads back to psychological problems and mental disorders.

However, if he had some childhood experence where he was raped or molested he could feel that way about being a male and may harm himelf in that way.

Or mabye hes some nut case scitso guy who raped some chick and felt guilty so cut em off as self punishment, thats all i can think of. and both are pretty sick

There is a condition that some people have where they want their limbs to be cut off. Perhaps this guy has something like that. I can't imagine wanting this, but I've never been in that situation.
