No, old age is not a curse

It's a shame that some people would consider it a burden. It is only in Western society that some seem to hold this view and bundle their folks of into a nursing home.

You just don't see that in any other culture - elders are respected and welcome members of the family and live with their families until they pass away.

(Naturally, some senior cits need attention and care that the family home cannot provide, and in these cases, nursing homes / hospitals do need to be utilised)

are u burdened?

well for me, there is no burden in taking care of ur parents. if u are burdened by it then you are worthless.,rejecting ur parents is simply like having amnesia or the likes of it., well my point really is that oldage is not a curse, and it will never be, it is part of the cycle of life, if one has to be young forever then there is no growth, and without growth, there is no cycle or process, well before i go out of context, u should not be burdened no matter what, imagine how they nurtured you, gave u food and clothings, essentially they gave u the life u have now..,

i think it depends on the child, if they never had a good relationship with the parent but eventhough that's the case it should not be a burden because another point would be, hey they are ur parents, they gave u everything!..,

so i guess, i made my point.,

So many people are so wrapped up into their own lives and their own worlds that it becomes difficult to look after an elderly parent especially if they are not in the best of health.
I was in this situation. My father is a stroke vicitim and is unable to walk or talk very well. He requires a lot of personal care. With my work schedule being the way that it is. (I work 14 hours a day) It would be very impossible for me to care for him the way that he deserves to be. It is a very sad situation and if I could do it differently somehow. I would.

children used to feel blessed to take care of parents in old age, but society has changed so much. Were in a post industrial age, and people are tooooo dam selfish. The responsibility has been shifted to old folks homes, and others.

Personally, i don't care how hard it will be to care for my parents. We only get them once, and only have one chance to let them know how much we love them, and to me that is not by putting them in a home, and waiting for the inheritance. I have seen this happen so many times, and it breaks my heart.

Old people have alot of wisdom, and that wisdom used to be cherished, as old people were also cherished. Their knowledge was passed down to children and essential for survival. We will all be old some day, and should treat our parents how we wish to be treated when we are old.

I guess because our kids are looking forward and living their own lives. Human nature is generally pretty selfish, especially these days it seems. The "Me Generation" really look after Number 1, and that isn't the person/people who raised them. I know that's a generalisation, but it does seem to take an extraordinary effort to consider others' needs, even those who have loved us the most.

You will be cursed some day with"Old age" too. Your parents are cursed with the fact that you think they are a burden. I don't want to ever be a burden to my children, but i hope they never are like you.
