my friends and i used diet coke with caffine.
the "pop" or the "explosion" was a little dissapointing though...it wasn't that big. :)

Diet coke is what is usually used, but diet Pepsi will probably work, too. It's not caffeine that creates the reaction, but rather some other element of the diet drink. Regular drinks don't work.

Use diet coke, I would hate to see perfectly good diet Pepsi go to such a waste.

Diet coke. the carbon attaches to the mentos' sugar, thus you have carbon dioxide. shake it up to fuzz it some more. cap before you do. dry ice is also good for the reaction, though it creates some carbon dioxide, so the reaction is larger. Caffine does not matter.
Put it somewhere,
Then RUUUNNNNN!!!!!!!
(HINT: Dry ice is carbon dioxide solidified, and it sublimes.)

it's supposed to be diet coke, not pepsi. I didn't know anyone who tried it, but I found several videos on youtube.com
here's one that was really creative!
