If your puppy has diarrhea, WATCH HIM CLOSELY! If he also seems lethargic, vomits, or has any trace of blood in his stools, take him to the vet IMMEDIATELY as it could be parvo. Puppies this age are very susceptible, whether or not they're vaccinated. If he does indeed develop parvo, make sure the breeder is aware, as all the puppies were probably exposed to parvo, then. If you have any doubts, don't hesitate to see a vet, because parvo can quickly turn fatal. I've seen way too many cases at the clinic the past three months. Most people give puppies however much they can eat. If he doesn't want to eat, that's another warning sign.

Now on to the other issues. If the upset stomach is from food issues, try to find out what the breeder was feeding him, and mix a little with the food you'll be feeding him. He can eat dry food, too. Soft food tends to give some dogs diarrhea, others are fine with it. Changing foods should be dones slowly to avoid digestive upset, over about a week to a week and a half.

As far as worms go, you may see worms in the stool, but then again you might not. The only way to tell for sure is to take a sample to your vet for a fecal flotation. If he has worms, the vet will tell you what to do, and may even treat right there at the clinic, depending on the vet. I strongly urge you to get a vaccination record from the breeder. It is very important to know what the puppy has and hasn't had so you can get the vaccinations done properly. All the breeder has to do is call her vet and have the records faxed to your vet, it only takes a few minutes most of the time (do allow some time, as it can get very busy).

Good luck with your puppy, and I hope you get everything sorted out:)

You would be better off getting your puppy it's shots all over than to go without them. This sounds like you'll need to see your vet and get your new friend checked out and your vet can answer all your questions at the same time. AS far as feeding your puppy, I think it's more important to feed it several times a day than to feed it twice. If your looking for the amount...I would think that a quarter of a small can 3 times a day should be good, If he's leaving some behind, reduce your amount some. Also I would really consider mixing some dry puppy chow with your wet for a couple of reason's but mainly, it needs the nutrition as well as it's going to get expensive just feeding your Aust. Shep. when it gets grown. I bread Blue Tics and I fed all of them a wet mix of purina puppy chow for a year then a mix of wet and a good regular dog food. Worms?? check he's stool and look for them untill you get your pup to the vet. Good Luck.

You can find the weight by weighing yourself and then getting the dog on the scale with you and finding the difference. The food change probably is what has caused the diarrhea, especially if he ate dry food before. Talk to the previous owner about what kind of food they were giving it. Canned food is really rich and I don't recommend it for very many dogs, unless their system can't handle dry food. As for the vet history, as the previous owner for the shot records. The tail is not an indication, since that's a procedure that the breeder can do. If you aren't sure, just take the dog tot he vet and get the shots again. Good luck!!!

Hopefully you got a name and phone number from the owner. call them get the name of the vet ask for the medical records. If the puppy was on dry food the wet is too rich for the stomach dry puppy food is the best. Weigh yourself then pick up the dog and weigh both of you now you have the dogs weight. read the directions on the package. Also is the wet food for a puppy if not the pup is not getting the proper nutrition it needs for puppy growth. Get the puppy to a vet ASAP more shots are needed.

At 10 weeks he is old enough to eat only dry food, if that's what you prefer. Moistening the puppy food is just for puppies that are just starting to eat food.

Many are born with a naturally bobed tail. If you have no proof of worming and vaccines, then assume it had none. Take him to the vet ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!! He could have another problem that is causing the diarrhea!!!!
I never feed canned. Soak good quality dry in warm water until it is soft. I hope that is what you mean by wet. Offer half a cup three times daily and adjust it by how much he eats/leaves.

It will usually say on the food package, but you probably shouldn't be feeding him just wet food try mixing some dry food in with it.

I think its a bad idea to be asking this online. people could give you real inaccurate info that could make your puppy really sick. you should call your vet, they will have the right answer.
