Me. It does work. We are totally compatible politically - he's a liberal democrat Christian, I'm a slightly conservative democrat atheist. (Blows the lid off the 'only republicans are Christians' argument!) We love the same movies, books, TV shows... What amazes me is the sheer number of people who answered your last question that simply have no idea what they're talking about. We have a Christmas tree - in fact, I decorate it. With angels and all kinds of things. I incorporate all our beliefs into the holidays. His mom is against the wedding (which we agreed to have done by a justice of the peace) and, although she likes me, she doesn't like the idea of her son being "unequally yolked". He himself has said to me that he's unsure about where I'll "end up", but he doesn't dwell on it. As for kids - we agree the best thing is to let them find out what they want to believe on their own. To keep this from getting too long, you can email me with any specific questions you might have. I write a bit myself, and would be more than happy to help you!

I don't consider myself an athiest as such, but I told a conservative Christian woman I was dating that I have stopped caring if God exists, and I have stopped caring if there is life after death. What I mean by that is that I really can't wrap my tiny mind around those issues and come up with something substantial. Intellectually I cannot claim to KNOW. Spiritually, however, I am prepared to accept what is. That's a form of faith, really, but it is one she couldn't understand. Shortly after I told her those things, she decided to break off the relationship.

Prior to the breakup we had a great relationship going, and the breakup didn't sit well with her. It didn't sit well with me either. Frankly I was furious. After several months, we got back together. We've been together now for years. In the process of our continuing dialogue, her views on Christianity are shifting in emphasis from a conservative mindset to what I call an organic understanding of the teachings of Jesus. I don't claim to believe that God exists, but somehow I believe his word is written in our hearts. At root, I believe humans are more beautiful and spiritual than any of us dare to imagine. An organic understanding of Jesus means that his teachings interact with the truth already written in our hearts. The teachings of Jesus are not a fixed set of beliefs. They are not a faith formula for achieving salvation. They are a process by which the truth within us can grow.

A Native American healer I know said "The laws of spirit are the laws of the universe." I understand this to mean that when humans develop their own spiritual understandings, we will tend to form similar conclusions about who we are and our relationship to the universe. If this healer is right, all religions that endeavor to find spiritual truths will end up pointing in the same direction. By opening up to a more organic and interactive way of looking at Christian beliefs, my good lady is able to recognize the spiritual validity of other belief systems. She also can see that spiritual expression is built into human nature. This is good for me, because she it allows her to make room in her life for someone who has a sense of reverence but doesn't have a clue what the object of that reverence might look like.

I know this isn't exactly what you asked for, but hopefully it helps in your endeavor to write a book.

Yes - for over 32 years now

It has not been an issue - I go to church about every Sunday and have a reasonable amount of involvement - and my spouse does not go to church and just does stuff around the house while I am gone.

It is only a big deal if one of you makes it a big deal.

Not now but I have been and it is very difficult especially if you show your faith. When you are a Christian, a true Christian, you love differently. It is an unselfish love. I do not recommend mixing like that.GOD bless
