According to my mother, who even had a lung transplant thanks to many many years of smoking and its effects - it doesn't stop. You, howver, choose not to do them anymore.

It was a habit for you, something that was an intregal part of your life, as much as your parents, spouse, child are part of your life. You would never stop missing them; likely you will never stop missing cigarettes.

Seems harsh, doesn't it?

I would talk to a doctor, there are drugs out there that can stop the physical and emotional dependency. You've probably gotten rid of the physical dependancy of cigarettes, ie the nicotine addiction, but you still have a psychological addiction left. The thing to do is keep your hands busy, take up knitting. Anything or any places that remind you of smoking avoid them. Any behaviours that lead to smoking, for instance if you smoked a cigarette everytime you eat chips, dont eat chips. You should definitely talk to your doctor, he might be able to give you some advise on what to do.

Congrats on quitting! It's truly the best thing for you and your family. It varies with each person on the amount of time they keep craving cigarettes, but stick with it! You can get medicine (such as the patch) if you feel you are going to start again or ask your doctor if there's some thing else you can do.

I can't answer for myself as I have never been a smoker but my mother used to smoke 3 packs a day. She quit, cold turkey, in 1985. If she were writing this she would tell you that she loved every cigarette she smoked and that if she had even ONE today.....she would be either deathly ill or right back to 3 packs a day.

NOt sure but good thing you quit. A lot of pregnant women continue to smoke and your baby could be born with asthma or respiratory problems.

i quit smoking when i was preg too.. your body is a mysterious thing.. i was fine not smoking when i was preg.. but as soon as my body started to get back into shape.. i craved... alot of people have said the same thing.. easy when preg, but as soon as their bodies started to get back into shape they wanted to smoke again.. you have to treat your body like you just quit.. unfortunately i started back up.. so now i am going to do it all over again.. i have no idea why this happens, but its very common.. be strong and hang in there.. chew some gum... but don't smoke!! i have to start all over again and its going to be hard!! think of it this way.. you have been smoking for a long time.. it might be awhile till you no longer think about them or want one.. (a friend of mine just quit and she said it took her 6 months to stop craving) good luck and good for you for not going back!!!!
