If police officers didn't care about the public, why would they be police officers?
That's like saying a firefighter only wants to get out the burning house himself.

OK hold on a minute first off lets consider IF we in law enforcement are not trying to protect the public then why did we enter law enforcement? The pay is nothing to write home about especially considering most police officers have some college and many took a pay cut to become a police officer. The hours are not much better when you work a swing shifts like i do for example when I'm working nights I go about for about four days without seeing my little girl for more than five minutes a day. there may be a select few which do it for the adrenaline rush but by far most of us do it because we love having a job which allows us to make a difference every time we go to work. And contrary to your belief when we engage in a high speed pursuit we are trying to get some unpleasant person off the streets and away from you and your family. Also let me add that the any police officer behind the wheel of a cruiser has gone through many hours of defensive driving courses and pursuit courses so that we can perform our duties safely.

You may be right. Certainly,. you understand that the police have a tough job. Police chases in Los Angeles are highly problematic and there are ways to end them more efficiently, but the police have not yet discovered the obvious.
They are in harm's way every day. Perhaps a person aspiring to be a cop has reasons that do have to do with them being in control and the authority of the uniform. However, we have to appreciate that in some cities, without the help of those cops, things could be worse than they are now.
What's your solution to the car chase thing? Do you feel that the 'public' has a responsibility to be good citizens and behave in lawful ways?

the police are police because they do care!!
only a small few would do it for the money
it is a very hard depressing job
they see a lot of heartache
Police should get the respect they deserve
I agree with you about the high speed chase being dangerous & should not be allowed because it puts others in danger
there is a better way to catch them
they could quitely follow the crook until they stop & then nab them

I hope the next time that you are ripped off and or got a gun pushed into your ribs or the officer is holding your guts in or those of your loved one that you let the officer know that he is not welcome near you. I am sure he will listen and go away. No he will be there saving your sorry ass and those of your loved one as his partner persues the idiot that drove off after he tried to kill you and your loved one while they were drunk of high. Good luck asshole call a drug dealer the next time that you need help Jerk And yes I was once a COP & ,EMT

LIE . . you have to remember that these guys put their life on the line to put up with crap each and everyday for your safety. Think about those who gave their lives in the line of fire. Just like the cops, firemen, and the military.

Disagree. If they just let criminals walk (or drive) away, they are not keeping the public safe.
