i doubt i'm exaggerating to say that one in four young girls have a tattoo there, do they do it to catch your attention when they bend over or is it just to be like all the other girls?

They're not called 'Tramp Stamps' for nothing. Yes to both questions, to get you're attention while they're bending over and to be like everyone else. 'Lets get a tattoo, everyone's doing it'.

Why do young girls do anything en masse? Probably because it's fashionable. Yes I'm sure a few will regret it later in life but there will be those who won't too. If you're going to get a tattoo done anywhere, it's as good a place as any because it can't be seen unless you want it to. OK, so that's not strictly true at the moment, what with low cut jean styles, but fashions will change again as they always do and high waists will be 'in' again somewhen. If they want it done, why berate them? It's not hurting you! They can be quite attractive I think. And to those who say it's just to attract a guy's attention when she is bending over, then don't let the guys off the hook for gawping at her backside in the first place.

I have three tattoos and one of them is on my lower back. I am neither a tramp nor a ****. I got it after my son was born and it will one day be completed with all my children's names on it. I don't like wearing jewelry and this will be my "mother's ring" in the future. I don't wear very revealing clothes and only have tattoos that mean something to me and will only be seen by me and my husband unless I want other people to see them.
Personally I can't stand it when girls who have a tattoo on their lower back wear revealing clothes for no other purpose than to show off their cute tattoo that they just had to have in order to look sexy.

It is a surefire way to get a guy's attention, I mean he's looking there anyway so why not captivate him with something other than your rear end.
It used to be a tattoo on your breast (the first place his eyes goes) but that is way too painful and will probably be distored during pregnancy when everything swells. It is also very easy to conceal a tattoo in this area if need be.
I am definitly considering getting one as a milestone.

That depends on what type of clothing the girl is wearing.
1 of my many tattoos goes from my back onto my bum and no one except my husband sees it. I normally have all my tattoos completely covered. They are just for me, i dont get them done to "look trendy" or "fit in" however i do feel that a lot of people who are just old enough to get them done to have them there to get attention. I think these are the people who are more likely to regret having tattoos done.

As someone who has a lower back tattoo, I can say neither applies to me. Nor am I a tramp or skank as most of the other people here like automatically assuming.
I got mine because I fell in love with the drawing, and the lower back was the most appropriate place for it.

I got mine done on my lower back because of the tat i picked out. It looked best there and that area isnt prone to sagging like other places. Oh and I didnt get some lame tribal **** that means absolutely nothing to me like all these 16 year old skanks. I got a celtic heart which symbolizes my Irish heritage. I love it.

I havea design on my lower back, I dont wear tops that show it off, apart from in the summer when I am wearing my Bikini or something
I have alother tattoo on my shoulder, i dont like either of them any more and wish I could get rid :-(

I got one done on muy lower back.
I got it done because i i wanted a tattoo for years, and have always wanted it there. I think it looks nice - if its the right size for your body.
I love mine, dont care if no-one else likes it, i do.
Mine is just a small flower

i have two tattos one is on top of my back and the other is on my lower. i got them down there so if i need to i can find them and then at the same time i can show them. it is a good place as easy to find for work. i hope that helped
