What guilt?

How do you deal with your narrow-minded judgemental perspective on the world and the people around you?

As a Pagan, I have Gods and Goddesses, quite like, but more in number than the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Guilt though, is a feeling. It is a recognition that you did something wrong. I, personally, deal with it by doing what I can to make what I have done wrong, right. It takes effort and a sense of responsibility.

I don't have the luxury of doing something wrong, and then going to a priest, or saying a prayer and having it magically erased.

I believe that we are each responsible for our lives, and it is up to us to make reparation when we have erred. We receive neither blessing or curse for that which we have not done, nor do our good deeds or ill go unnoticed.

Wiccans have either the three-fold or ten-fold law which states that what we send out returns to us. The Rede says "An it harm none, do what thou wilt." Again, we are responsible for our own actions. There is no shepherd to whom we go to wash our fleece. There is no free ride. No ticket to heaven who's price is only "I believe".

Chocolate ice cream.

No, really. I mean it.

Guilt is not an inherited thing - so the only thing that Pagans are going to be feeling guilty over are their own actions. If they screwed up, it's up to them to take the appropriate responses - mend fences, ask for forgiveness from the people involved, etc. For any lingering feelings - a pint or two of chocolate ice cream, and the guilt melts away like magic.

Guilt for what? Are you asking if I've ever felt guilty because of something I've done? Sure I have. All humans have. What did I do about it? Apologized, didn't do it again, and forgave myself. Just like any normal person.

Do you mean how do I deal with it if I do something wrong and can't just turn to God to ask Him to forgive me to make it right? Well, my gods would probably perform that service for me, but I prefer not to ask them to. If I have something to feel guilty about, I fix it myself. I apologize to the person I wronged, NOT god. I feel this is the best course of action. Even if you can ask God to forgive you, isn't it better to try to fix it in this world, as well? We all make mistakes. Admitting them to the living is a skill it takes guts to use.

If you're talking about guilt for not believing in God, your question is misguided. If you're asking about guilt for the consequences of my actions, I try to resolve them whichever way seems fit.

Hmmm... why would I be guilty? I believe every diety is just as real as every other one, so technically I'm not an unbeliever in God, I'm just not a follower of God. But why should I feel guilty about this?

Unfortunately for you, you are the only one who would feel guilt if he stopped believing because you know that's what your parents and friends and community want. We never got indoctrinated so we don't feel guilt about what we don't believe in.

Absolutely no guilt... can you imagine? If you didn't subscribe to a guilt inducing mythology, you too could lead a good, moral, and guilt free life.
