I always hear someone say. "I used to be an alcoholic/sex addict/drug dealer/etc. and when I found god/Jesus, my life turned around. He helped me see the light and a good life." My question is: Why would god play favorties? Why don't you just help everyone in need and maybe that way they'll come closer to you? Sounds like god/Jesus is just like those teachers I had in High School that would bump your grade to an A if you kissed their *** enough.

There are some interesting verses in the bible. God says these things: "I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will harden the hearts of those also whom I choose". God also likens Himself to a potter, and we are the clay. He speaks of how He, as God...has the right to choose what to do with that clay. I don't know why certain people are found of God and certain others are not. But there is one thing I believe with all my heart: that God is perfectly just, righteous and holy. So I do not give up my faith in Him for those things I do not understand.

Romans 2:11 - For God does not show favoritism

God is willing to help everyone who is in need. What you need to see is that God is willing to forgive and help those people who were alcoholics/sex addicts/drug dealers/etc. So why wouldn't He help with other, less serious problems?

We have free will God didnt take those alcoholic/sex addict/drug dealer/etc and force them to stop. They did it on their own. But they found motivation in God.

Why are you assuming God plays favorites if some people surrender to Jesus and others do not? If you believe God has turned their life around, and I assume you do or you wouldnt be exuding frustration at being "passed over", why havent you surrendered?

The Bible teaches that there is no respecter of persons with God, "For there is no respect of persons with God," Paul declared (Rom. 2: 11). However, such is hard for man to realize, especially since man is often given to respect of persons. Nonetheless, the scriptures are emphatic and replete with teaching that presents God as not judging or treating man, any man, with respect of persons. In other words, God is just and equitable in his dealings with man.

God does not play favorites, rather, he helps those that come to him first.

Darling we all have to go through the valley to appreciate the mountaintop. If things were always easy we wouldn't appreciate it.
