Global warming...?

Question

I have a problem: I seem to be the only one in my entourage to be worried about Earth's warming apocalypse. I try to force my wok colleagues or wife to recycle paper, or throw trash in recycling bans to almost no avail. I won't event comment on my family in Europe, for whom recycling is a dish of "fritata" (week's stew in an omelette) at best. How can I change their attitudes? How can I prevent myself from going MAD? Help.

People find it hard to care about things which are too big for them to see. Thats how we got ourselves into this mess. Maybe you need to accept that your time on this planet is short and maybe OUR time on this planet is short. We are like a bacteria and the antibiotics are being delivered. Earth will be fine.

The first thing I would recommend is to read ALOT on global warming. I am an environmental consultant with a degree in geology. I have seen enough evidence to begin to wonder if global warming is actually happening. Enough so that I do not have an opinion on it because I do not believe I have enough information to make an informed decision. It appears that many of the climate changes people are saying is evidence of global warming are really related to local climate change and not indicative of global warming. The fact that it is on the news all the time does not mean that it is actually happening. I guess my point there is that apocalypse is perhaps the wrong word.

While conservation and recycling is important, I will go on record as saying that a fact is that the worlds biggest source of pollution in the world is sediment. Every house and parking lot we build adds to erosion which adds to sediment in the waters, which reduces the photic zone which plankton needs the light to survive. This is the bottom of the food chain. Destroying the bottom of the food chain will effect everything, including us.

Be more concerned with your impact on pollution sources rather than things like global warming.

For those people who are not convinced about global warming you need to focus on the immediate benefits to good ecological behavior. I often sell the point that these materials are made with imported materials and imported energy, to recycle helps reduce dependency on foreign oil. Also, closer to home, municipal recycling programs, whether run properly or not, reduce the cost of disposal and means real savings for homeowners. In my City, Plantation, Florida, U.S.A., we purchase city bags for collection. Blue garbage bags cost $2.50 each, and clear recycle bags cost $0.40 each. I use 1 or 2 blue bags a month, and 1 recycle bag a week. I have some neighbors who use 6 bags a week, & never recycle. If I can't sell them on recycle, at least they pay. Also, local environmental issues which are more tangible make it easier to convince people of the need to act. Keep up the fight, and Good Luck!

Sorry there is no Global warming it is a hoax. The main cause they say is CO2 ,well that is OK for we do burn a tremendous amount of material. Well they are so short sited that they don't know the rest of the system is green plants that take in the CO2 and put out oxygen. so the CO2 is not there to amplify the solar heating. The Methane is not there u cant measure it. Launching the satellites the missiles went through where the methane should of been where was it???

firstly explain to them what exactly global warming is, what has caused it? collect data about the ill effects of global warming, such as the ice caps melting, change in atmospheric temperature, point out the climatic changes occuring locally in ur area as well as globally. compile the data and show them these facts visually by means of pictures (has a faster effect) and do it slow and easy. if they don't agree upon ur views about global warming, don't feel bad, what ur doin' is right.. continue to recycle and spread a word on its importance,whosoever thinks its right on their part to follow would follow, the rest would realise when time comes.. don't get disheartened, its a slow process testing ur patience, stay calm and cool and do what u can to save mum nature..
