I have been homeschooled all my life, and I recently started going to high school. I love it, the social atmosphere, everything. But my mom doesn't like it because she's worried "I'm not learning anything" and is going to take me out after the 1st semester! I can't go back to homeschooling, I just can't, not after I see what regular schooling is like! I'd kill myself if I had to go back!!! Please!

you wont learn anything? most of the population goes to regular schooling and they're just as successful, if not more successful, than home schooled people. its the same thing, you just learn it at a different place. tell your mom that. and dont kill yourself, it's not the end of the world. put your grades high so that she'll see you're learning and then if she still takes you out, you've got college to look forward to. no homeschool for college.

Your mom is a very smart woman! Home schooled kids are smarter by far than those that attend public schools. You should be happy to be home schooled. You don't have to worry about gunmen entering your class room and shooting your friends or you. There's no competition with other female students. You don't have to worry about your make up or bad hair days. There are groups of Homeschooler's everywhere, they get together for activities etc. Have your mom check with the library or city hall to find groups in your area. And be very happy you have a mother that loves you enough to put out the extra time and effort for you!

From my experience I believe home schooling parents are extremely protective even to the detriment of their children's social well being. You need to sit down and explain to mom that the social interaction with others you age is very important to you. She is probably correct that you really won't get the high quality education in a public school that you would with the one-on-one home schooling environment. You may offer to seek additional work from your teachers so you aren't held back by the group. You may ask mom to give you additional studies based on the current curriculum being given at school. Talk to mom, plan what you want to say, keep emotions to a minimum, be logical. Good Luck

What do you want us to do? Your mom is concerned about your interests. If you want someone to speak to her on your behalf have one of the teachers at the school have a talk with her. They can tell her what all the great things that the school has to offer and that you'd be missing out on if you don't stay in school.
