Pagans do not believe that there is a god- a christian God anyway. Some pagans worship other dieties and/or other Gods.

Originally it was a term ascribed to country dwelling peasant types. Generally now it describes people who would attribute multiple deities or archetypes to the Divine which is immanent in nature, thus making it more plausible and understandable to the finite mind that which is transcendent and therefore beyond comprehension. The word "tree" for example is a symbol for that particular plant. And so pagans will use archetypes and deities to describe aspects or personalities of the Divine.
