I am sure that your son thought that he was taking care of the dog by putting it in the protection of a tree. He probably didn't even think about the pine needles getting into his food and water. Dogs are kind of like 2yr old kids. You have to watch some of them more closely what they put into their mouths. You should really take the dog to a vet, he may xray his belly. Its unfortunate when things like this happen because going to a vet can run you into money, but it needs to be done, if the dog get sicker.

Evidently neither you nor your son knows how to care for a dog if it was just stuck outside in a cage under a pine tree. Has he even been feeding it? Not sure where you live but it is winter and they need shelter. A wire cage does not provide shelter from rain, cold, snow. The dog may be sick from the pine needles or it sould be something like parvo. It needs to go to the vet and please find someone who will give it a good, loving home. That is if it makes it.

Yes, the needles in his food and water may be making the dog ill. Clear it all away, give him fresh in clean bowls and fix what I stated above.

call a vet or an animal rescue - why torture this poor animal ; get him some medical attention and get some books on how to raise a dog or find him a home and save him from owners who are not the sharpest tools in the shed.

The dog may have ticks. Ticks tend to live in tall grass and sometimes trees. Take the dog to a vet to determine what is ailing it. I hope this helps.

Not very smart. Give dog boiled chicken breast cut up in rice or pasta for a day or 2 if still sick see vet
