It seems that any hand lifted, regardless of motive is labelled violent- I understand that there are bullies out there who have undeservingly become parents and have used the positions horrendously; however there are many times when the best deterrant or learning curve a child has, is a smack. I do believe that smacking and proper instruction, together with the love one has for their child builds a better person for the future- how do we squash the bullies but properly discipline our kids, without becoming labelled a bad parent, or a violent person? A child should not be smacked in anger but they should be disciplined with love, smacked so they know they are loved but must be obedient to the instructions provided to keep them safe. But at all times that child must know that they are loved and wanted by the parents-it is just the bad behaviour that is abhorrent.

My mom and step dad didn't spare the rod with me. I'm glad they didn't. OTherwise I would be on the streets dead somewhere. As it stands, i am married with two children, am in college, and have a great marketing job. I'm glad my parents loved me enough to teach me right from wrong, even if it did seem "violent" at the time. The people who are going on about "OMG YOU VIOLENT CHILD ABUSER", think about it. Since the CPS has taken control of all parents and paretns are too scared to try teaching their children righjt from wrong, look at society today. It's mostly degenerate. When your so called "Abuse" was around, children behaved, grew up, became fine individuals, and made society proud. Now, that's rare and teen pregnancy is common and ACCEPTED.

There are a lot of people in the world who believe that a child should be able to do whatever they want, whenever. That is a load of crap. However, they regret that decision when their kids grow up to be complete jerks and or criminals. Spare the rod, spoil the child!

Parents who smack their kids are vilolent!!!!! How dare u condone such thing. What message do u think violence says to a kid? " I love u, thats why I think I have a right to hit u" ya right!!! Children who get smacked, for love, end up wishing that they could never be like there parent. People should be treated equally regaurdless of age. If an adult gets arested for smacking an adult, than it should be no different for an adult smacking a child. Just because I am young does not mean that an adult has the right to smack me for discipline. Violence is never acceptable. An adult should never smack a kid inorder to teach them to be "obedient to the instructions provided to keep them safe." I am a child, and I beleive that no one should be able to abrige upon the equal rights of another. If a child gets punished inorder to teach them to be obediant, then they may find it acceptable to smack an employer or a spouse in the future. U are not building a better person, u are telling a child that they must be obediant to u and ruling by terror and fear. If someone were to say something that u didn't like would u smack them, not unless they are children huh? Smacking despite the motive, will never again be acceptable in any sane society. How do u suppose to teach them anything. We don't even smack our prisoners, why would we our children? Just like a dog, who refused to come when called, all the dog learns from a smack is to fear the person who hit them. I have seen all of this, even with "good motives" and trust me a dog acts no differently than a human.

Because most of them people today never received that good piece of discipline or were abused as children..but they shouldn't judge others.

I remember when i was young, if i ever got out of line, my ol man would let one go across the face.

Had no effect on me now.

Always remember the old smacks on the arm...lol

Because we hear so much about parents who beat their kids horribly and abuse them. We have become paranoid. Further child psychology books tell us that hitting reinforces violent behavior, tells the child the big person gets to be violent. As long as your not overdoing it, tell people to stuff it.

I don't see any harm in a smack on the tush or leg. But, across the face seems extreme!

As far as the stereotyping...

Probably because of the media. They portray it like anyone who makes a child behave is being physically abusive. So, as a result we have more and more unruly kids.

i agree, something is got here approximately the two in college or interior the childs social existence. i'd propose you the two confront the youngster your self or tell the mother and dad to accomplish that. appears like the youngster is lacking motivation, help, friends, somebody to respond on or the two bored and have not any hobbies or involved-thats why the youngster as began investigating drugs and subsequently carry psychological aspects like misbehaving, frustration and anger.

My dad used to swat my a$$ whenever i deserved it, and i turned out to be a very successful individual if I do say so myself. (i'm 25 now). a good whippin' when necessary never hurts a kid; physical ABUSE is a totally different story. people who never received any whippins when they were kids are the ones i'd be worried about.

Because society is becoming too politically correct. It's getting to the point where criminals are being let free and victims have to pay twice.
