Romans 5:12-20 is the biblical account for this question. It is a bit deep theologically, but that is a good place to start a study on the topic.

Here is a portion of that section of scripture.

Romans 5:18-19
Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.

There is an age of accountability for a child (even though the child is born a sinner) where the child will not be held responsible for their actions. However, once a child has grown to a point of understanding (that age may vary) and rejects the gift of Jesus Christ, they must stand on their own righteousness, which the Bible says "is as filthy rags".

Now God placed children in a room with a toy and if you have ever had a two year old, if you put them in a room with a toy and tell them not to touch it they will, as soon as you leave.God intended life to start, for time to start, for the whole wonder full game to begin. The sin wasn't the apple. The sin is when God Got back expecting them to have apple on there face. he asked the man who did it the man pointed at the women and the women pointed at the snake and none of them took the blame for there own actions. That does not jive with a priest who has to point fingers at other people sin in order to get the best cuts of sheep. So they came up with the whole other idea and the whole guilt thing. The whole original sin thing to keep people in church and to keep people feeding them.
God himself is beyond duality and the story of genesis is the story of man living in a world of opposites. Why there is death why we have to eat life to live these are basic question that are asked when you have to wake up and kill and butcher an animal yourself when you live in the skins of animals and death is an everyday thing.
It is all a metophor and the ones telling the stories and herding the sheep were never so stupid to beleive it was more than a tale more than a metaphor.
It is when the story does not touch the heart anymore that people start to think it was history.

Adam was born in the sinless image of God. (Genesis 1)
Genesis 4 tells us that Adam's third son, Seth, was born in Adam's image (his fallen image, after the disobedience of Adam and Eve.).
Seth inherited the propencity to sin, and so has everyone else born since.

That is the essense of Original Sin.

It's called a sin nature. Original sin was what Adam and Eve did in the garden of eden. Each person is born with the "bent" to sin. All you have to do is watch children...they can be extremely cruel and selfish; you have to teach them how NOT to be these things.

This comes from the idea of Adam and Eve. Muslims believe that Adam and Eve were equal to blame and both asked for forgiveness and both received it. The idea of Eve being the root of all evil was a later idea put into the Bible to put women in their place. Muslims do not believe in orig. sin so all babies are born sinless. We are responsible for our own actions.

The child is not born with the original sin. The child is born INTO sin. That is the difference. The wording makes a big difference.

There is nothing more ignorant than to believe that a baby is born with sin.

Simple- the child can't be. When Jesus died on the Cross, He eliminated all sin- including the "original sin". Therefore, the "original sin" no longer exists.

It's a type of collective sin inherited down from A&E. I still debate whether it's real or not. Most Christians do believe in it though.

Bingo. The answer is that it can't. It ridiculous to think that we are born sinners. The whole concept of original sin is a farce and a fairy tale that makes no sense whatsoever.
