Stitches are supposed to be kept dry. I know with my own surgeries, I was not allowed to get my stitches wet, or wash the surgical area until the stitches were removed. If your dog has the stitches that dissolve, then about a week after the surgery should be OK. To be sure, it would not be a bad idea to give the vet a call and ask the question. A staffer should be able to give you a definitive answer, for free.

NO! Didn't your vet tell give you any instructions? If they are stitches that still have to be removed...then definetely don't give him a bath as water and bacteria could get into the incision area and cause an infection. If dissolvable stiches are in...then call your VET as ask at what point you can bathe him.

I wouldn't give the dog a bath for a while so the stitches have a chance to heal up. You wouldn't want dirt and grime to get into the open skin and get infected. Get those "bath wipes" for dogs. Just be careful around the area

treat him as if he was a newborn that you didn't want to put in a tub, get a small plastic container and fill with warm water, lay you dog on a small counter or a table then use whatever you usually wash him or her with by using a soft wash cloth, wash him good, avoiding stitches and then get fresh warm water and wash cloth and rinse him well. Dry him off as best as you can so you don't get the stitches wet. this will be the best way till your vet tells you its OK to get them wet or he takes the stitches out. hope this helps.

I use to work for a vet. After pets would have surgery, before they went home, if the vet thought the pet needed a bath, I would bathe them. I would just be careful not to get water or shampoo around the incision site.
But I would call your vet first and ask them.

I would wait until they were about healed. Until they are kinds dry and you know no infection is going on first. Then I would make sure and dry him very well in those areas and maybe put some peoxide on the areas to kill any germs that might come from the bath water. Good luck.

I wouldn't just to be on the safe side. My dog was spayed and we didn't do anything until the stitches were removed just to be on the safe side, because it could become infected

No, some vets use dissolving thread, so the water could dissolve them. Call the vet and ask.
Also, the shampoo could not only hurt, it could really irritate the areas.

You need to let the surgery sites heal first.
