I have a friend who claims that her son is allergic to protein, and says that the list of foods that he can't eat ( to name a few ) includes; All Dairy, Most Meat, No oils and Fats, No nuts of anykind. . . . The foods that he CAN eat include, Chicken and Turkey, and Veggies, and Starches. Has anyone ever heard of this? She also claims that he can eat McDonalds, but not Burger King. . . . Is this all true?

Sometimes I think that she's making it all up, but EVERYONE around her makes the same fuss that she does. He's 2 and a 1/2. When I told her that chicken and turkey ARE protien, she said that it is the OTHER protein that he was allergic to. She has also shown me the Emergency Kit that she has to carry with her at all times. . . So, I don't know.

I have heard of this it's called ASA. It's not an allergy to proteins all together, it's an allergy to one or more of the amino acids that make up proteins. Most of the time this disorder goes undiagnosed and proves fatal. I just watched a show about this on Discovery Health like 20 minutes ago and the little girls hair was breaking off and she just kept getting violently ill when they introduced solid foods to her.

This lady is indeed making things up.
Now, some people aren't well able to handle some meats, and it may well be that the boy is one of those that can't eat red meat but can white. My husband has to be wary of fatty meat and dark-meat chicken. As for being able to eat at McDonald's but not Burger King- Um, no. They're both the same class of fast-food restaurant. And hamburgers are generally made from beef.

Frankly, I wonder if she is imagining symptoms and trying to project them. Or if she has done that, and the restrictions she has placed on his diet are indeed making him sick.

Sounds like your friend is pulling your leg or is attempting to maybe thwart her son's eating habits. For one thing if he was allergic to protein, then he couldn't eat chicken. And eating at one fast food place or another doesn't make sense; they're pretty much the same food selection.

Chicken and turkey include protein, as do many vegetables. Your friend is either crazy or misunderstands her son's condition.
