I have an upgrade software program that says it must be installed on a computer with windows xp professional. I have a new Dell with Windows Media Center. Is Media Center on the same format as Windows Professional, and can install the program.

As far as I know, the only thing Windows XP Pro has that Media Center doesn't is the ability to log onto a network domain. If your program isn't network related, it shouldn't be a problem.

Doofyee is correct windows xp media center is essentially xp pro with some network and encryption features disabled and add the obvious media related features. But it is based on the xp pro kernel not the xp home kernel.

windows professional is usually only installed in computers pruchased by companies and offices etc...if you bought your computer in a store...I would say you have home edition so I would not install it....it might make things work badly.
