The best thing to do is distance yourself away from them. Don't call them or email them, and definitely don't see them. The more you stay away and keep out of contact with them, it will be easier to detach yourself from this person. This does not mean that you will ever forget about this person, but it will make it easier for you to go ahead with your life. This takes time for some people, and other people it doesn't. It all depends on the individual. This has always worked for me.

This is a very difficult task, made more so because much of what you do may have been either done with the other person or in the context of the other.
Use your time to focus on your own needs. To do so, make a list of things you may have been putting off doing, and go about doing them.
Join a club or two. Get into an old or current hobby. Take up a sport (cycling, jogging, indoor tennis, etc.) Focus more on your work. Clean and organize your living space. Take a few courses in a school or adult education program. Join a poetry group and come there with a few of your own, "good" or otherwise. Volunteer your time to some worthwhile organization or two (ie., The Sierra Club, etc.).
If, in your activities, you meet another, try to refrain from focusing too much of the conversation on your old relationship, even if asked about it.

Just go over & over in your head about all the bad things they have done to you - if any and sooner or later you will start to dislike them. I did this to get over an ex boyfriend and it worked. Couldnt believe what i ever saw in him

Find someone else to distract yourself with-just don't do anything stupid with them that you'll regret. It's not the healthiest thing to do, but when you're desperate to detach yourself, it will help.
