Uncontrolled, Lust would lead to stories that unfortunately West Virginia ends up being the brunt of many jokes. Uncontrolled Lust would lead to pedophilia as well as incest. Two highly undesired effects. It's easier to call it a sin rather than to educate the nuances of when it is appropriate.

Lust is only a sin if you lust for somebody else's wife. If you lust for a lady who's not married that's okay.
On the other hand if you yourself are married it gets a little complicated. Stick to your own wife cause if you're lusting after another you might not notice someone lusting for YOUR wife. It's all very poetic.
