I was at the store and was purchasing a pack of gum, I handed the clerk my credit card to pay for it and she examined it, looked it all over, showed it to all the employees, then demanded ID saying that the name on the card doesnt look like its my real name when she doesnt even know me, this is the second time this has happened and im sick of it, is this an invasion of privacy? this happened in NY so what laws were broken? I could use links to a law website stating this is legal or illegal please.

People, I dont care about anything besides if what this person did was invasion of privacy by scrutinizing my card with my CC number on it and showing it to the employees. I dont care if the buisness has the right to deny me credit card use, blah blah blah. I wanna no if my rights have been violated, nothing else.

The fees the retailer pays to accept the card outweigh any profit they might make on the transaction - they really mean " No - that isn't worth my while"

Don't use a damn credit card just for a pack of gum!
I wouldn't want to take a credit card just for gum. The store pays a fee for each transaction, and they probably would lose money on a small rinky-dink purchase like that. Either get some change or get a debit card that has a pin number so you don't need any ID!

Do you have some kind of strange or wacky name or something? Is that what's causing this?

Look, stores take credit cards as a convenience to their customers, and it's THEIR choice to accept them or not. They don't have to, and there's nothing illegal about them refusing to take your credit card. They don't even have to have a good reason.

But if this keeps happening, I'd suggest you call your card company and tell them, and ask what it is about your name (or card) that makes so many people think it might be fraudulent...

It is routine to demand ID with a credit card purchase in a lot of small stores. The Walmarts and Sears aren't so cautious -- mom and pop can't eat it, and usually are much more cautious.

I would try to straighting the problem with you Drivers licenses. Then go to the manager and talk to him nicely. Now if you it is just your signature that is different. Tell them everybody signs differently every time. You could also call their headquarters if they have one.
If they suspect fraud ask them to do a code 10 authorization it in the merchant credit card manual.

No lawyer would take your case.

i used to be until i all got to work at a save and that i become the only on the different component of the counter asserting "declined" to human beings. I truthfully have through fact found out that loss of money in not the only reason some human beings get declined. it must be something so common as a satellite tv for pc difficulty! human beings consistently assume that while we tells them that their card has been declined, we predict of they have not got the money of their account. that isn't the case. There must be countless motives for the decline.

Weird. I can spend 50 cents on my CC at my store with no problem.

If they are accusing YOU of fraud, i would SERIOUSLY consider the legal side of it and what action you can take.

Letters,

Despite what others are saying, businesses benefit when more customers use cards.

Call the store manager and ask why this is happening to you.
