I am agnostic, mostly, and love theology of all kinds for the simple pleasure of reading various stories and taking what good I can to be a better person, or to share with others, or simply being touched by an event, whether or not I am sure it was completely true...
I just want to say it bothers me some when people keep saying this one quote for certain, "Only fools of the heart do not believe in God."
Just to let some of you know, it's -really- hard to want to hear the supposed Good Word if we're called foolish before even opening up the book.
Same goes to people saying Muslims are terrorists who have never touched the Kuran (spelling?). And for atheists telling worshippers of God to shove the Bible "you know where". And for calling people Heathens for not being baptised.
Am I alone on this? Wouldn't it be easier to convert people if we stopped judging first? "God forgives", you say? Then why play God and judge for him before He can get a chance to speak?

I think this is a good start, many christians don't even know that other people feel bad when they say that, they think that by them saying that they might make others feel guilty and they would agree, but the truth is otherwise, I don't think that most people say this out of pride that they are only right, but sometimes it also comes out of frustration. But I think when you start expressing yourself in this way and point out the things which you don't like, then I am sure that many people would stop behaving in a way that would make you feel displeased.. most of the problems are caused by misunderstanding and lack of communication. Sometimes i think that is one reason there is some amount of hostility between christians and atheists/agnostics.

You are so right! We are not to judge each other. No one is perfect and everyone has the need to grow. We need to love and help each other instead of knocking each other down from way up on our pedestal. I am so sorry people have called you foolish. That is not being a true christian. We can learn from everyone and no one should be put down. Yes, we would get a lot further in reaching people if we would love them first!!

I agree with u. It seem Christians did stop and listen more before condemning they might convert more. Who would want to be part of a religion who is hypocritical. I grew up in a baptist church, and I hated when I witness them rush to judgement. I also hated seeing my friends gang up on another friend because she didn't believe in god, and didn't want to convert. I still believe in god and jesus, but the only thing I follow when it comes to christianity is the lessons that jesus taught, which is miraclously similar to Taoism.
I also listen to others about their beliefs and they listen to me about mine. We have a real discussion and no one ever forces their beliefs on the other. We use it as a learning experience. I really love religious discussion it helps me learn more about other religions and the more I find out the more they have in common and are completely different than what I heard previously before the discussion.

I will take you one further - why bother trying to convert another? What possible impact could my spirituallity have on the life of another person outside of my family? Let's share our stories, let's look for common ground and find a new way to look at this divine journey - but let's not presume that anyone needs advice or to change in the area of spirit until we are directly asked to help. Let's be respectful of each other's point of view and expect to see the beauty in their religion (even if it is not our cup of tea) as we would hope others could see beauty or courage in ours.
Unity is the way. We don't all have to agree to anything except that spirituality is in the Private Sphere of life and no one has a right to presume to preach, convert or disparage the views of another - period.
Peace!

Just because a person has come to know the love and mercy of the one true God, and has accepted salvation thru His Son, Jesus, does NOT mean that they suddenly acquire the art and skill of expert diplomacy.
As you ask for understanding and more appropriate treatment, many of us would ask the same from you for those who are young (and very, very often EAGER) in faith.
Very good question. God bless and support you.

I agree with you! You catch more flys with honey then vinegar. Of course, like the above post from KJV, your just going to get a lot of "the bible says" replies. Certainly nobody can speak for themself when it comes to defending their judgemental actions.

I think the idea of me trying to convert anyone from whatever they are to my world view, that of no God and that after I die my soul goes into Earth orbit and touches yours after you die, is absurd.
You are not a fool for not having my world view.
