Your doc is somewhat on the right track. Depression is diagnosed way too often today. Anxiety, panic and anger are symptoms of a mood disorder. Yes, there is a depression component here but he's right to evaluate you for a mood disorder such as bipolar disorder. His refusal to prescribe meds is wrong. Get another opinion. Mood stabilizers such as lamictal, lithium or tons of others will take care of the depression, anger and anxiety without dealing with antidepressants that would create more anxiety and anger (hypomania) in a Bipolar II person, which I honestly believe you are.

It sounds like he is hesistant to start you on medication without being more certain of your situation.
You don't say what else he recommended; it sounds like a good path would be to refer you a really good cognitive therapist. Talk therapy can really help get to the root of your issues, help you to feel supported and have a clearer handle and understanding of what's going on in your life.
The different medications can vary greatly and it would not be good, ethical medicine for a psychiatrist to blithely prescribe you medication that he doesn't think would work. Meds often have side effects and in certain circumstances can actually make your symptoms worse (I don't know how old you are, but some medications seem to cause problems in teenagers and young adults.)
If you feel that you were not being "heard" or taken seriously by this psychiatrist, then you always have the right to seek a second opinion.
medicine can help alot with certain mental health issues, but it's not the only answer, so you have plenty of choices. You've made the first one, which is looking for help in the first place.
good luck.

although, i am not certified, i wouldn't believe a diagnoses of personality disorder. it sounds more like to me that you have post traumatic stress disorder, with generalized anxiety and possibly panic disorder, which come usually with PTSD.
I can tell you though, that medication can make things worse, and don't really help in the long run, unless you are getting counseling, and also making changes to your life style.
make sure you are not using any drugs or any alcohol, because this can make you look like you have other disorders, when it is really the result of use, which can change personality dramatically.
Anger, panic attacks, anxiety, trouble sleeping, and not wanting to go out, are all signs of PTSD, which means that you would have gone through some very traumatizing events in your life, and you need alot of support, and caring people.
other signs are hypervigilence, fear, anger, unable or unwilling to trust others, nightmares, bad memories reoccurring in your mind, feeling depressed or utterly drained emotionally and/or physically. You may be avoiding going out, for fear of having a panic attack while out, and also insomnia, or sleeping way too much.
PTSD, does not mean you have a personality disorder. Personality disorders are marked with the inability to change ones self or beliefs and having a rigid outlook on things, including black and white thinking.
any one who has suffered trauma or on going stress, and has not had the chance to deall with issues, is naturally going to feel like this. I would not try to deal with anything alone, especially bad memories.
Get all the support you can, and if a counselor doesn't feel right for you, find another one.
take vitamins, exercise, get counseling, and find supportive family and friends. also keep a journal.
sometimes our bodies tell us we need to deal with something, by givng us all these symptoms. It is human, and it can be used to change your life for the better.
God bless ya

Short, clear and simple; and you can even post your question and contact the author regarding particular subject you are interested in

If you feel that you're not satisfied, it's best to seek out another opinion before the depression gets worse.
