but now it's significantly higher, and I am worried. He had his MMR shot 11 days ago and side affects take place around this time. Should I take him to the E.R. instead of waiting for the pediatrician tomorrow to make sure he is ok? I am nervous. I have been giving him tylenol, and mortrin since yesterday, and pedialyte to keep him hydrated. THANKS!

The body temperature of a human naturally rises in the late afternoon, which is why fevers often occur at that time. As long as you are alternating Motrin and Tylenol, and use some cool washclothes on the forehead, and rub down his body with them, he should be ok until the morning. If those things don't work, and you're still worried, it never hurts to take your baby to the ER.

Call the afterhours number for your pediatrician. They will probably want you to bting your some in tomorrow morning. Depending on the age of your child I wouldn't worry, yet, nor would I be using Motrin. Motrin is great IF Tylenol does not bring the fever down. My ped. says that you can alternate them every 4 hours.

For the record my 4 1/2 yr old had a fever that did this about 3 wks ago. It would be REALLY high in the morning and then drop all day and then rebound the next day. It took a week to go away. First trip to the ped. he was diagnosed with a cold, second trip it had morphed to strep throat.

If it gets 103 or higher then go to the ER keep doing the Tylenol and Motrin every 4 hours give the Tylenol then in 4 hours give the other. As you already know under the arm you raise it a point. You are doing good he Will be fine. I worry to about my daughter to when she has fever and I am a nursing major. Good Luck

I would call the pediatrician and talk to the on call doctor. Depending on your sons age, this could be something to worry about, but in infants they tend to run higher. The on call doctor will let you know if you need to go to the ER or if you should just keep alternating tylenol and motrin.

fevers always spike at night, I dunno why but they do. sigh. I would keep giving hims the tylenol through tonight and call your pediatrician in the AM. If the fever gets to 103 or higher.. I would take him to the ER. Theres always the possiblity of febril (fever)seziures too. If this happens they are usually benign but call 911 ASAP. Your doing good mom. take a deep breath, he'll be ok. :)

I got by with good ol children's Advil. i went through similar 3 weeks ago and stuck it out for 72hrs with temp. on Advil...Usually (what the doctor told me) when your finding that your child is depending on ibuprofen or acetaminophen(Tylenol) theres an infection somewhere in that little body of theirs. Ear infection? Very common. or a viral/bacterial infection take that baby to your regular doc the only thing the ER is going to do is break the fever....Also children's bodies can withstand a body temp up to 105 degrees amazingly(found out from 24hr nurse line which helped me through the nights) good luck but the ER may be a long night for your household and cause more irritability to your young one. I fought an average temp of 103 for 3 days straight....guess what took him to his regular doc we found strep throat(daycare). But we're fully recovered and thankful to our 24hr nurse line and Docs open on Saturdays Education.

Can't really tell you what to do at this point, but for the future.... I just found out my doctor's office has an after-hours advice line for questions like this, ask you ped at your next visit (or call tomorrow) if they have anything like this (they do not tell this to everyone freely).
