Pursuing a dangerous career but also very rewarding, the look on someones face when you've helped them retrieve their stolen goods, assist them in danger is priceless.
I'm proud to be of assistance to my country and to protect all citizens anyway I can.

Lets see......underpaid, understaffed, equipment made by the cheapest supplier, etc...
Or maybe its trying to correct 13 years of bad parenting in 15 minutes, trying to solve problems in a relationship that was doomed from the start, trying to protect a woman from her wife-beating husband (for the 50th time), trying to keep a junkie from buying more dope, or talk a mental patient out of killing themselves.
Nah, I think that it is because sometimes, not often, but sometimes, I really get to help someone that desperately needs my help.
Yeah, that's it.

Firstly, I am a person of religious and spiritual sensibilities, and I do not think in terms of "pride". I am never proud of anything. Any achievement of mine is the result of divine blessing: thus pride is more an indication of spiritual impoverishment than achievement. Mahatma Ghandi was never proud. He was too religiously aware to ever experience pride.
Secondly, there is almost an oxymoron in talking about a person being a "righteous cop". It is righteous to renounce violence and preparations for violence categorically. The person inclined to police work is (research has shown), psychologically similar to the violent criminal: both seek work where they will, in the natural course of the performance of that work, be able to hit someone over the head. It is largely people who have a desire to do violence to others who incline to police work.
Yes, a peaceable society requires having a police force. But, I still have a fantasy that there ought to be a police force of righteous persons dedicated to the impartial enforcement of the law, and not their own license.
It is just a fantasy, of course. People drive by the house where I live at 90 miles per hour, and I often see cop cars in the 69 position in a parking lot. So much for law and order. So much for the enforcement of law. So much for effective law. So much for that kind of law which protects our nation and our communities from terrorism. When the next big terrorist attack comes, people will be consumed with the terrorists themselves, and totally uncomprehending that the ineffectiveness of their laws relatively empowers terrorist agendas.
I have real religion, and I think maybe God can eventually give us comprehension. Maybe.
