Perhaps the Child is immature, even for Kindergarten.
I am shocked that the Physician put him of Medication without additional diagnosis or testing.
From the details of your question, it seems that the school has Tested him for this condition.
Either way, your gran-son should be tested by an independent source. The testing source will examine his behavior in the school setting and the home setting. The interaction with other children and adults in a social setting will also be evaluated.
If there is a problem, it is best to treat the problem at age 6, then at age 16.
There are Labels for everything today.
Good Luck to you and you Gran-son

Oh Grandma
My son is 32 and wasn't labeled until Jr. High School. The poor little fellow failed kindergarten and first grade. The school system, well off system too, tested him prior to and said he was way above his age group --- Of course I was thrilled! It was down hill from there. My son has suffered......his entire life from not getting the attention he should have gotten early on. If your grand son needs help, please encourage and not discourage his parents. Some people don't want their child to be "labeled" but if you think about it the little person just might need just a little help to get them through.
I don't understand what a MD is that's not a professional?
You may be saying his Dr. is just a General Practitioner, if so please get the young man to someone who can may be able to help solve his problem with either "bull headedness or a learning disability. He could possible have a problem and now is the time to seek help.
Good Luck!!

I myself believe that you need to research this further. I have experienced children with adhd. I know that different medications could work, but some might not. It probably depends on the child. It can prove to be very frustrating, I know. My husband and I also tried to look at the situation from different standpoints, including environmental situations. Give your son plenty of encouragement and special attention. I am not a professional but seeing that your son is so young there might be a chance that going without medicine might not hurt. A note from her husband, people are too quick to label these children. Whatever the behavior the child is displaying they are getting something that at some level they perceive to be positive for doing it, Figure out what that is and you will control the behavior. good luck!!!!!

Why is the school diagnosing him to begin with? They are not qualified.
There is a lot of testing that goes on before a child should get a ADD/ADHD 'label'.
Just because he isn't fitting into the school 'system' doesn't mean there is anything wrong with him. What kind of work do they are kindergarteners doing??

My son had ADHD and my daughter had ADD. My son was once extra energetic than could be viewed traditional. He didn't pay attention to what I could say and could normally do the reverse. He was once without problems disappointed and truthfully touchy to sensory matters (which would possibly play a aspect within the awareness main issue). He would now not take a seat on the dinner desk and could be up and down, continuously. He was once in many instances foolish and at different instances he could be irritated for no apparant rationale. He could do aspect of his schoolwork, however in many instances pass strains on his papers. He could (snicker now) research with me and he could be upside-down at the mattress, and rolling all over the place - I would now not pay attention. He didn't sleep good. My daughter did what your daughter is doing, and this began in first grade. I didn't believe she was once overly social, however in institution, the trainer mentioned she was once continuously travelling. Later, in institution, the lecturers could say she was once now not getting her paintings performed. She apparantly seemed like she was once operating, however the paintings not ever bought performed. The instructor not ever appeared to have an understanding of what was once taking place. I later discovered that my son had "meals sensitivities" which I had checks run for. Different meals could impact him in one-of-a-kind methods. Some could make him energetic and inattentive. Others could make him moody and irritated. Sugar could make him extra foolish, than traditional. You can see why many ADHD youngsters are thrown within the elegance as bipolar. Many medicinal drugs, little outcome, despite the fact that many part results. You can appear those matters up as: ADHD and candida ADHD and meals sensitivities ADHD and leaky intestine Alcat scan Books: "Gut Solutions", "Allergies and the Hyperactive Child" - Dr. Doris Rapp (unusual booklet) - used booksites seeing that it's out-of-print. Read it duvet-to-duvet. Oh, the medical professionals is not going to trust any of the "meals" connections, so you may also as good now not attempt to get their contract in this.

I'm a psychology Major doing a research on the very same thing.
there's no test for ADD or ADHD which makes it hard to diagnose, but there are a variety of exams that he could take to differentiate ADD and ADHD from other disorders. assessing a child for ADD or ADHD usually begins with a complete medical exam, school, family history and a qualified doctor, psychiatrist, neurologist, etc. ps. I would sue that doctor he was suppose to refer you to someone who knew what they were doing good luck.

I guess it's because there are so many kids that the school system doesn't have the time or patience to deal with the problem. The easiest thing for them to do is to label the kid and then put him/her on medication. Though, the parents could change that pretty easily when it comes to their kid.

The kid is SIX he will act like that! The thing is if he is doing that during six and seventh grade THEN you get him diagnosed with it. I hate it that they do that, doctors are false diagnosing kids these days
