Since bird needs to be thawed in the fridge or immersed in cool water. You should allow about 1 day per 3 pounds of bird in the fridge, or about that many hours in water. So 4 days or 4 hours depending on how you doit.

A l-o-o-o-n-g time. If your bird is still rock-solid the day before the feast, you're going to be giving thanks over take-out kung pao chicken instead. You need to allow 24 hours in the fridge for every five pounds of turkey -- that's four whole days for a 20-pounder. If you've waited until the last minute, it's better to buy a fresh one. Defrosting on the counter may be faster, but it's unsafe. By the time the inside has thawed, the outer parts will have spent more than two hours at room temperature, which is long enough for dangerous amounts of bacteria to accumulate and to form toxins that will survive even several hours of cooking.
If you're running out of time and your turkey's still frozen, you can thaw the bird in cold water. First, be sure that the turkey is in a watertight plastic bag. Then cover it completely with cold tap water, and change the water every 30 minutes until you can no longer feel any ice crystals in the flesh. (Allow 30 minutes per pound -- that's only 10 hours for a 20-pound bird.) If your turkey is less than 14 pounds, you can also defrost it in the microwave as long as it goes right into the oven when you're done.

it takes approx. 1/2 day to thaw fully frozen ground turkey at 1 lb. a 12-lb turkey??? babe- u lookin at 2 1/2 days min. in the good old refrig at about 25 deg f. ok? start at nighttime, when u r just about to sleep, or u may prefer to start when u r least busy, just to get it outta the way of the rest of your agenda for the week. you may also thaw it outside, since well, here in chicago, the weather is cold enough to act as a fridge. outside in the back porch--2 days max. time does heal all things, even turkey freezer burns and frozen meat. in the large microwave oven--try it--thaw full force at 30 mins. in defrost mode to medium low heat in cooking mode, then fry up the sucker or bake in oven with trimmins till it's fully cooked, approx. 2 hrs min. may take 3 or slightly more.--keep basting it with juices. orange juice is better than fat drippins for your turkey. also try cranberry juice, pineapple juice, injecting vodka or beer or wine in several crevices to chemically expedite the cooking of the flesh inside....--abigail nabi marcos serrano aka androdefin@yahoo.com or oceanmermaid2007@yahoo.com

It will take about 2 days in the refrigerator. This is the safest way. I, however, and thawing mine in the kitchen sink under cold running water. About 30 minutes per pound, I am told.
