because relgion now-a-days is becoming hipocritical. the bible says GOD gave us a choice and yet religions are saying gays shouldn't choose to be gay because they don't believe in it. If GOD REALLLLLY didn't want gay ppl to be gay, don't you think HE would smite them???

Partly it's because most of the acrimony toward gays comes from the self-righteous religious out there.
I don't like people bashing religion blindly, but I will attack when someone bashes a gay person. There is absolutely no call for that.
I'll also come to the defense of Christians when they are unjustly attacked. When, though, it's a Christian attacking a Gay, I'll push against the Christian.
Religions though, especiallyl the established Christian religions set themselves up for attacks. They tell the world that they have the exclusive answer, and anyone who doesn't believe is damned and evil. Doesn't that sort of beg a sort of knocking? If someone told you that only American cars were worthy of driving on American roads.. what would you think? Suppose there were a group of people passing hateful literature out about those who drove foreign cars? Suppose there were groups of people dancing on the graves of those who drove foreign cars?
That's kind of why some religions get bashed.

The only thing I have against religion is when a particular religion thinks they know the ONLY right answer for everybody and tries to force it on other people. Then they become judgemental and tell you you're going to hell because your way of knowing God or talking to God is different from theirs.
I think there are many paths to God as there are people walking. Everybody has to find their own way.
As for knocking gay people, isn't it ironic that the people who claim to be the most religious are the first ones to stand in judgement of gay people?

First off believing in God or a higher power has nothing to do with religion. Religion is man made, and as we all know mankind is not perfect therefore neither is his version of any religion.
Religion is wonderful if it is to worship God, but when it dictates actions of human beings based upon scripture also written by men who we are to believe were inspired by Jesus it still will carry their prejudices and life's paradigms.
I have always had faith in God, because to dismiss god is arrogant. It means we think that we are the Davine power of the universe and I don't believe that.
I think living a life of compassion, caring and helping fellow man is a spiritual experience. Reading scripture and going lockstep to things that don't make sense is not my kind of religion.
Remember more people have died in wars in the name of a religion than all other conflicts.

I'm not really sure why you think that's the case. There seem to be a lot of people who get upset about both. But the thing is, at least in America, religious beliefs are much more protected and accepted than someone's sexual preference. Times are changing, but a majority of people used to label themselves as religious. One of the founding principles of our country was free religious practice. There are millions of churches for various religions, and the 'church' is given many rights in our laws. It invaded pretty much every aspect of people's lives: "In God We Trust", etc.
Homosexuality, however, has been ignored since antiquity. People have been persecuted for their sexual preference just as they have been for their religious beliefs. The US aimed to provide shelter for all who had experienced religious persecution, but it has never attempted to reach out to those who have been harassed over their sexuality. Instead of addressing the needs of this growing group, the government and society are working hard to repress them. They have never had a period of national or governmental support such as certain religions have recieved. They have every right to feel especially sensitive, for they have never been given the decent treatment that other large groups have.

I think people knock religion because of some people claiming to be religious, there actions are less than perfect. And many nonbelieving people do not seem to forgive as we might forgive. Maybe because we have a deeper understanding to the fact Jesus says we must forgive in order to be forgiven. And if you do not follow the Lord you can not understand the path of the righteous. Many mock God because they cannot understand something so powerful just keep walking in the truth adn pray for those who mock you. Jesus asked forgiveness for those who were killing him, because they knew not what they were doing. He asks us to do the same. Pray for tose who mock you, pray for the homosexuals, pray for the unbelivers so that they may see what you do!

Well at one time in history those knocking were killing and those being knocked were the ones who were dieing.
People do not no if they are coming or going. If the crowed feels this way most peeps will go this way, if they go that way the "crowed" will go that way.....
It takes a lot of courage to stick up for ones believes, it takes nothing to knock a persons believe down....

A 'religion' is not a sentient being with emotions. If you say something about 'religion' it does not hurt.. it has no emotions. It is a thing not a human being. Human beings no matter their sexual preferences have emotions and the ability to be hurt by derogatory words and phrases. People get up in arms because one is intentionally causing emotional distress to another member of the human race.

Because being gay is just the way people are -- there's no good reason to "knock" somebody for what they are.
Religion, however, is a choice. People *choose* the religion they belong to (or choose not to belong to one). Then some religious people will come on here and make outrageous claims, like "the earth is only 6,000 years old because the bible says so"...which is patently ridiculous. It's easy to knock people for being ignorant, not knowing anything about a subject, blindly repeating centuries-old dogma without ever learning anything, etc. Make sense?

As the first guy said, If you read extensivley into the subject you'll realise religion itself has no basis and is the creation of man himself. Most people just believe everything they are spoon fed though. For an example of this read about world war propoganda.
Homosexuality however harms no one. Why would you even care if someone you don't know has homosexual relationships with other people you don't know? Each to their own.

religion .... an individual choice
being gay ... not a choice ... that is thought of as being of the devil
see the difference ?
now i dont knock religion in any way
but sometimes people need defending when their lives are being hurt by bigotry ... in the cases of many gay people who speak out here
