You will know if the relationship is a successfull one by how you both feel about each other. That was really sweet of you to take her in and you both share a common history. Just make sure you both don't repeat history of your past, I don't think you will. Another thing is trust. Trust is key. If you both trust each other that is a huge matter in relationships.
