Your portfolio needs to be sharp and eye catching. The cover, back cover, and side of the binder should have your name clearly printed and a picture of you. That way, no matter how it is thrown into a box, they will see you.

In your portfolio, include your resume and cover letter. Then have pages that outline your future classroom:

An About Me section
Classroom rules/management plan
Philosophy of Education (how do children learn, what is the role of the school)
Discipline Plan
Goals in Education

You will also want to include lesson plan samples and possible student work samples for each of the big subject areas (reading, writing, math, science, etc -- depends on age group).

Have pictures, great stationary, and easy to read fonts and lettering. They won't take long to look at this -- make it memorable!

Depends on the specific job you are trying to acquire. I actually keep a couple tailored variations for the general professions I dabble in. I also always keep my info out there & updated even when I have a job - you never know when a better oppertunity will come open - but remember that holding a position long term speaks volumes about your employability.

In my education portfolio I have:
>a cover letter describing my ambitions and why I am the person they are looking for
>a resume w/ all my previous work and extracurricular experiences focusing on the ones relating to caring for and serving others
>a charactor reference sheet with personal letters of recomendation from previous employers & friends
>copies of my personal info: *my TB,flu shot, medical records related to the job *educator's certification (shows I have a clean background check) *CEU records *related licenses like CPR, STNA, or CDL, *etc...
*a sample of a lesson, outline, etc w/ photographs
