Great!!! There are many different techniques on acting. Two popular ones are "Method" acting and "Meisner technique". Method says that you do not play the emotion, you play the action. Focus on coming up with what physical motions your character will make and why she will make them. If she is a nervous person, have her look around a lot. You get the idea. But no big grandiose gestures - keep it simple. When your body knows what to do, your character becomes more believable. You won't just be standing there trying to come up with emotions. You need to read the script over and over and figure out what your character wants at every single moment. Then, try to get what you want from the other person in your scene. If you are clear on your gestures and your motivations, the emotions will take care of themselves.

Hey I got a lead part in my high school play "Its a wonderful life". This is my first play too. something that helped me out was that I really looked at the situation that my character was in and I thought how would I feel if that happend to me, or if I was in that situation.
ask yourself that but also talk to your director and ask for help.

find something that has nothing to do with the play to get really mad or upset about and your "auto-pilot" (sub-conscience) will take over acting in the play
