Bionicles, walkie-talkie set, spy gear, cars, video games, board games, Legos, magic trick set, balls, sport stuff, it all depends on what he likes to do. My son is 10 and still loves Bionicles. That and video games. Set a price, then go look at the store in the boys toy section.

My son is 7 yrs old. Although each kid is an individual, boys tend to like a lot of the same things and a lot of the things that have already been mentioned...cars, books, magnetix/k'nex, games, computer games. Action figures are really big w/ boys this age and mine loves any of the superheroes (Batman, Superman, etc.) He also loves anything StarWars, Avatar or Transformers.

Go to the toy dept at WalMart or Target and just start looking at these type toys. Just pick something you think looks cool and chances are he'll like it. Be sure to get a gift receipt. Good luck!

If he likes building. Magnetix. My son loves those. I wouldn't by the name brand ones though. He is 7, he will lose them. And they do not hurt when you step on them. My son loves Lego's too, but I have banned them from Christmas this year. "Santa" spent tons of money on the Star Wars Lego's, and half of them have been sucked up by the vacuum. Erector sets are good. They can build them and they stay built.

Books. . .Check your local bookstore out for classic novels that are written for a child of that age.

If the child is an advanced reader, purchase the classics written for adults. When I was 7 yrs old I was given "Black Beauty."

boys this age love yuguio stuff, action figures of super heroes, many are showing intersts in model building and problem solving. If he has a game system, then a new, age appropriate game is always appreciated. Just make sure you run whatever you want to get by his parents to make sure they approve and that he doesn't already have it.
