I, too, had horrible headaches. They gave me ibuprofen 800mg. It took some edge off, but not enough. Pain killers weren't an option for me, as I had addiction. I wouldn't recommend ECT either. It was horrible for me. I had it done 7 times and it never helped. It gave me memory loss, short term and long term. I was going through a divorce and I don't even remember why or how I felt or acted. Good luck and Bless You.

I had a whopping 77 ECT's, yes that's right, to try and fight off major black depression. After each ECT I experienced a bad headache, but they quickly disappeared after a few hours. My main complaint after all of these ECT's was long-term memory loss which has just about ruined my life. Thank goodness for faithfully journaling every day, for which I can refer back to my darkest hours.
Keep a journal if you are going through depression. Some people don't like to, but for me they have been a godsend. How else would I have known how my life was changing with each hospital stay, new meds and of course the feeling after each ECT treatment.
ECT is successful to some, but if I knew then what I know now I would NEVER have proceeded. However, when one is in the depths of hell, whatever is presented as a 'quick fix', they will grab, and that is what I unfortunately did. Major regrets.

I was about to go through with the ECT, but while I was in the hospital, my mom found lots of bad stories and reports (some of them scientifically credible) about ECT, so I cancelled the procedure and have been recovering nicely just using antidepressants since being home from the hospital.
My advice to you is to avoid any future ECT sessions, and just take some regular painkillers like Advil or Motrin; I think most painkiller brands now have a version of the drug that specifically works on headaches.
If nothing works for you, then it's time to see your doctor.

My brother currentlly holds the canadian record for number of ECT treatments. It stopped a few years ago and he is still suffering side effects. Very severe ones. I would not want anyone else to go through what he did.
