I havn't been to basic training or anything like that yet, so, I was wondering if it were still possible to break my contract to join the airfore?

If not, it's just fine, I'll gladly serve these 8 years and then do airforce, but I just was wondering.

thanks

If you signed up for eight years, they saw you coming, dizzy! Boy, that sure fits!

You need to talk with the MEPS people about this one. As hard as it is for these people to make quota these days, they're liable to put up a fight to keep you.

It seems to me there is a small window of opportunity to back away. You may have already exceeded that grace period, but time's a wastin. You get on the phone first thing in the morning and start asking questions.

If you have already been to MEPS and signed your contract then you have to go into the National Guard, complete that service and then change branches if you qualify. The Air Force has a higher requirement for enlistment than the Army so you may want to check on that. You will be an OSVET when you change services and you will go down at least one paygrade. Talk to your Air Force recruiter and get the specific details that you need. Maybe he can help you change your service designation somehow. It won't hurt to try.

For us in the Navy, we can do a "conditional release", in which we will be released from the Navy under the condition that we sign with another branch. I think it's the same with any branch.

And for the folks that are calling him stupid for signing up for 8 years, everyone who joins any branch of the service joins up for 8 years, that their Military Service Obligation, or MSO.

In the contract for people joining active duty, it will say that they have to serve XX amount of years on active duty, with the rest reserve service. For the guard/reserve, you will sign a contract that will specify whether you have to remain in an active drilling reserve status or if you can be in the Individual Ready Reserve, or IRR.

Yes you can still break your contract as long as you haven't been to MEPS for the second time. After that, sorry but your along for the ride. Anyway STAY ARMY. Its not as bad as everyone says it is. Been in for about 3 1/2 years now and I love it.

If you go to Basic Training, you're stuck in the Army. If you haven't, then you should look up the Air National Guard. I wish I'd have known that then.

You really are dizzy..... If you are not able to make a simple decision like this? I have really doubts about your judgment in general? What did you do flip a coin?

Contact an Air Force recruiter and they can tell you what you need to do.
